Boreas (the North Wind) by John William Waterhouse
I Don’t Know…
I don’t know how hard its been since your husband lost his job.
I don’t know if you have just been accused falsely or are suffering from an awful disease.
Maybe you have a child with disabilities that requires all of your energy and resources.
I wasn’t there when you lost your home to the ravaging fires, the flood, or the tornado during the night.
I can’t imagine losing your fiancé in a car accident after you’ve just announcing your engagement.
I don’t know if you’re living with a son’s pornographic addiction or an unfaithful husband.
Resting, by John William Waterhouse
I don’t know if you hold a sick child night after night where the doctors give you no hope.
I am not there when you see your weary face in the mirror and cry, “I can’t go on.”
I wasn’t there when your family lost your lifelong savings or co-workers decided to make life hard for you.
I don’t know whether you have a prodigal child that you haven’t seen in years.
Albert Edelfelt, the Laundress

Oh, dear Father,
Thank you for being here with me and allowing me to cry out to you in my times of trouble.
It is amazing to me that you, the God of all creation, would take time to listen to me and to care about my needs.
God, there are things swirling around me right now that I don’t understand. I feel weak, afraid, and helpless.
Even in the midst of this storm, I know that you are the Lord. I trust You.
I ask you for strength and for wisdom that I would be able to bear up in this situation and be able to handle it in a way that would bring glory to Your name.
In Jesus name. Amen.
