I must say, it IS harder now than when I was younger; our young adults can memorize circles around my husband and I. And I didn’t grow up with the computer, so to sharpen my mind I decided to write a blog.
But, there is a better way to exercise your brain than learning to blog.
It is memorizing Scripture. It takes much less time and promises the highest rate of returns on your effort.
“The entrance of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.” ~Psalm 119: 130
Memorizing as a Church
For the past week (yes, it has taken me that long), I have been committing Psalm 119: 61-63 to memory. And today, our whole church recited the longest chapter in the Bible ( all 176 verses of Psalm 119) from memory, one person after another, in a large circle. Little children and all the parents each had verses. It was an amazing time of fellowship and great joy!
There is talk now of memorizing part of the book of Colossians or maybe James!
I can’t think of any better way to sharpen our brain, strengthen our family, and grow in grace as the body of Christ than to work together to memorize the living Word of God corporately. What a wonderful day it has been!
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” ~Colossians 3: 16
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.” ~Psalm 119: 11-12
