I want to recommend Good Girl Moonshine.
For years, it’s been the trend to carry along a water bottle or favorite drink wherever you go. Healthy All-Day-Sipping is a good habit to establish and easy enough to do.
It doesn’t matter if I am out running errands, exercising, working at home or writing the blog — it does what it is supposed to do:
1.) I am less hungry at meals
2.) More satisfied between meals
3.) Gives staying power and alert mental focus in the afternoon when I’m usually sleepy
Trim Healthy Mama Plan is one of my favorite resources. Sisters Pearl and Serene discuss how you can use foods that work with your body, not against it.
You will discover the secrets of hormone balance, and healthy, natural, and sustainable weight management. It contains over 250 recipes and tips, plus it’s a fun and an engaging read.
It’s comforting to sip Good Girl Moonshine as I work because I know I am doing something great for my body. Good Girl Moonshine is a satisfying blend of spicy ginger and cinnamon, the sweet tart flavor of ACV, and raw honey.
Is Good Girl Moonshine a Sports Drink?
Good Girl Moonshine could actually an electrolyte-rich sports drink just by adding a second big pinch of unrefined salt such as Celtic or Himalayan.
It will give you an extra edge at the cellular level right after a cardiovascular workout.
My Version Good Girl Moonshine Ingredients:
- Fill a quart-sized canning jar with 1/2 cup of warm water and add approx. 2 tsp. raw honey. Thoroughly dissolve by stirring. Original THM recipe calls for a few shakes of stevia to taste.
- Add 2 TBSP (to taste) of raw apple cider vinegar (preferably organic)
- Add 1 tsp (to taste) of ground ginger
- Add 1//4 – 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon
- Add a pinch of Himalayan sea salt for electrolytes and trace minerals
- Tighten on the lid and shake vigorously to mix. Fill to over half with ice and top with cold water. Sip through the day, aiming to finish before dinner.
- Optional: Add turmeric (and black pepper for absorption) for super health benefits.
That’s it!
And once you discover the ratios of spices that you like, mix up a little jar with them pre-mixed. You can also make a concentrate with all the ingredients, (except water!) and take it to work in a small bottle to mix up there.
And lastly, you can change it up by using different herbal teas instead of water.
Note: I am very particular to keep my teeth rinsed with fresh water to keep from having prolonged contact of acids (ACV, added lemon juice, and sugars) with your teeth. It may seem laborious to have a second bottle of plain water, but it’s worth it!
{Fun change-ups: a handful of frozen berries or a dash of lemon juice to punch up the detox value}.

Cinnamon and Raw Honey – a Powerful Duo according to NaturalNews:
If you are worried about what seems to be a lot of sugar, do some research. LiveStrong cites studies that show that honey and cinnamon have several positive effects in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and may reduce blood sugar levels and blood pressure.
But, please read more for your self and don’t take my word for it. We personally only use raw, local honey.
- Cinnamon is very warming for those who suffer from being cold all the time, improves circulation
- Honey (especially raw honey) and cinnamon provide energy, making people more mentally alert and ready for physical activity which in turn increases the metabolism
- Drinking honey and cinnamon in lukewarm water results in them moving through the bladder and cleansing it of infections
- Drinking this beverage on a regular basis can relieve, or in some cases, entirely cure arthritis pain
- This mixture strengthens the immune system and fights off colds as well as some viruses
- Regular consumption of raw honey and cinnamon together, when combined with an overall healthy diet and moderate activity level, can prevent heart disease by clearing clogged arteries
- When consumed together, honey and cinnamon can ease digestion, prevent gas
God designed our bodies to be able to digest and utilize His natural foods when we eat in moderation. When we eat processed foods, we do not get His best for us. I have decided to trust His wisdom in this area by sticking to real, whole foods and spices.
Do you add anything extra to your version?

Hi Jacqueline! I’m wondering, does refrigerating this throughout the day in between sips ruin it? I’m just thinking it would be better if it was kept cold throughout the day. I love this article, and your lovely tone, I can’t wait to check out more of your blog! Blessings!
Jacqueline
Hello and good morning, Carrie 🙂
Thank you for your kind words.
I don’t think that it will go bad whether left out for the whole day or in the fridge off and on. It is full of anti-bacterial cinnamon and raw honey which keep it in perfectly good condition. Remember that raw honey is used to treat some pretty deep wounds now in many hospitals (its the active enzymes). I often start out with a scoop of ice cubes, and they keep it pretty chilled through the early afternoon, depending on where I am. I hope that helps, new friend 🙂
God bless you!
Sandy
My “honey pot” has ran dry at the moment (makes me feel like Pooh bear, lol) so im wondering would Splenda be ok as a temporary substitute? I cant wait to taste it!
Jacqueline
Hi, Sandy,
Oh, I am in the process of making my Good Girl Moonshine right now! Haha!
Good question, though… I have steered clear of Splenda and tend to lump it into the category of the other processed tabletop sweeteners.. This is one side: http://www.splendatruth.com/health?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=R.Branded+-+Safety+-+Negative&utm_term=splenda%20problem&utm_content=Safety+-+Problems|mkwid|saL63TloJ_dc|pcrid|36843185344 and this is the other: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/02/10/new-study-of-splenda-reveals-shocking-information-about-potential-harmful-effects.aspx The Latter is by Mercola who I respect. I’ll take him over the FDA.
I hope that you get your honey back soon! We, too, are running out of honey and not finding anyone to run the hives. Our long-time beekeeper retired 🙁 Blessings!
Jenny Jones
Hi, This sounds like a great drink…except for the ginger. I can’t handle the taste of ginger. Can I leave the ginger out and still benefit from the drink? Or do you have a recommendation for a replacement for the ginger? Thank you!!!
Jacqueline
Hi, Jenny! Sure, you can leave out the ginger. I can’t think of a replacement but maybe you can bump up the cinnamon. If you drink it as a rehydrator after workout you can also add a little sea salt and get the minerals you lose from sweating replaced. I add sea salt even when I don’t work out.
Blessings 🙂
Rachel Gordon
Hello 🙂
I have been drinking your version of GGMS all week. I have to say I have not been dragging around as much as I usually do.
Praise the Lord and Thank you for that! However, the cinnamon is kind of grainy. Could I use cinnamon tea and still get the same great benefits?
Jacqueline
Yes, Rachel, I think so, but it might not be as beneficial. I just thought of a cinnamon stick left to steep. You don’t want to sacrifice potency and the powder may still be the best if you can get past it. I hope that helps, friend! 🙂
jackie m
Can I make a weeks worth at a time and keep them in the Fridge? I am not all there in the am’s and if I am going to drink this in place of my morning coffee (well that is the plan) It would be helpful if I could just grab it out of the fridge first thing and not have to mix it each day.
BTW I LOVE your blog: the quality of the info, the sensibility of the info, and the generally peace and tranquility of the sense of the overall blog. I am type 2 diabetic and am loving using your beverages to replace soda!! Thanks for all your hard work and effort!!
Jacqueline
Aww…praise God for His goodness! It is all Him and your kind words are an encouragement to me, Jackie M.
Yes, I think b/c of the spices (esp. cinnamon) it will be just fine (they and the sea salt are all preservatives of sorts. No longer than a week, though 🙂 I pray He will bless you with excellent health and joy in Him 🙂
jackie m
Thank you! And He does bless me and give me great chances at health…I just look at my Diabetes and a cause and affect…I didn’t honor or care for my body as well as I should have when younger…(we all think we are invincible don’t we?) Too many Mt Dews, coffee, and other caffeinated drinks, too much chocolate and, too much working long hours with little sleep (worked in theatre). Now I am having to live the consequences of those choices…not punishment, just fact. But God gave us incredible bodies with wonderful ability to recover and heal if we do our part to care and nourish them! And people like you, whom He has gifted with the ability too understand and a heart to share helps the rest of us to put this wisdom you are bless with into use in our lives.
Marie
Jackie, I was not going to reply, but I just felt compelled. Type II Diabetes is a lifestyle disease and, in many cases, completely reversible. It sounds like you are on the right track, but I would also encourage you to read/view the work of all the whole food/plants docs out there (DRs McDougall, Essylstyn, Barnard, Campbell etc.) as well as, FOR SURE, watch Forks Over Knives (free on Netflix or order from your library).
You may already be doing that, so I don’t mean to intrude. One of the biggest fallacies out there regarding diabetes, though, is that you need to limit carbs, when actually a high fat/high protein diet will greatly increase your insuline levels. Good luck on your health journey 🙂
Jacqueline
That is great encouragement, Marie! Thanks for pointing me toward the right direction! Totally agree about the high fat/ high protein levels increasing insulin levels!!!
jackie m
thanks, yes I have read many of those docs, and have watched forks over knives more than once. I totally agree that diabetes is reversible, if you are willing to change your lifestyle diet and eat differently, like many of the issues around health and food. I will look into the other authors i have not read yet, thanks for the suggestions.
Marie
Well…it is tasting a little bit better than I was expecting…but definitely not a “chuggable” drink. Did you grow to love this brew, or do you still get through it? I will give it a one week try 🙂
BTW, Pioneer Woman has all those delightful homeware items at Walmart…two of them are really pretty straws and mason jar lids! So the fact that I am sipping this with blue and white retro daisy lid and a turquoise and white straw makes me aesthetically happy 🙂
Jacqueline
Haha!! Sounds lovely, Marie! Actually I love the taste b/c I’m kind of a spicy gal and feel refreshed by the lower sweetener and zip of the ginger and cinnamon. You can alter it to your taste, though, so go for it…maybe a bit more stevia and less honey?
I love beautiful things, too 🙂
Pam
I’m wondering if I can use my cinnamon bark and ginger essential oils in place of the two spices? I like the added benefits of essential oils, plus you could avoid the texture issues previously mentioned with the cinnamon.
Jacqueline
Pam, I am not an expert but on many levels that would make sense to me. I wonder though about how much to use. Experiment and find out…
One thought: since the oils are volatile, could they be lost to the air? I would think to shake them well into the GGMS and keep the drink covered if just sitting for several hours?
Do let us know what you discover~
Kaylinn
This looks like a great recipe but to give the tumeric a boost as pepper, sounds weird I know, but studies show that the addition of pepper improves absorbtion 200% allowing the tumeric to work in all areas of your body
Jacqueline
You are right, Kaylinn! I am writing on tomato-turmeric-pepper soup tonight! I hadn’t thought of it for the GGM until now!
Crys
Have a gal friend who enlightened me about ginger juice. Found it at the local health food market.
5oz bottle was $4.69 for 5oz. I’m all for saving time and this liquid is about as simple as it gets.
You can find this @ gingerpeople.com. Just mixed my first batch and I like the taste. Will encorperate
this to daily routine.
Also have a question, how much cinnamon when make your perfered recipe of GGM?
So glad to have cound your site. We all need the Lord.
Jacqueline
Hi, Crys! I actually use quite a bit, but it’s hard to say. I almost never pay attention anymore. :0 I’m thinking it amounts to a full 1/2 tsp., maybe a smidgen more. I love the spices and cinnamon healthfully moderates the sugar spike as I sip through the day. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/10/12/more-evidence-cinnamon-helps-control-blood-sugar.aspx
I hope this helps answer your question! God bless you and yours!
CLAUDIA Valderrama
Hi I’ve been reading on this and comments I’ve got hypo thyroid and in remission STOMACHE CANCER I’ve had thyroid problems for the past 30 yrs and weight had been a big problem also always tired just don’t have the energy to do anything . I’ve read that it helps with weight loss and I’m actually gonna prepare this drink today and I’m hoping this really works for me
Jacqueline
Claudia, Oh, how I am praying for you! I can’t say with certainty that is will help with weight loss and there are so many other factors that influence that, but I do know it gives me more energy and certainly helps a bunch with inflammation and mental alertness! I hope that helps!!
God bless you, friend!

I recommended the.schwarzbein principle (and cooked.her.a.meal from doc.schwarzbein’s cookbook). She was.able.to go off insulin following this.book.
Mayra Lopez-Seda
Hi
I’ve been drinking GGMS, from the beginning of this year since being diagnosed with gastritis and having h-pylori (along with suffering from IBS and digestive problems from childhood). Now, I can not say this drink was a “cure all ailments” but with changed eating diets and understanding food triggers- adding this drink to my daily diet has changed my health for the better. My recent endoscopy came back clear- no gastritis and no h-pylori, thank God!!!
I use the basic ingredients of the GGMS, but I also add an apple, a dash of cinnamon powder and a dash of cayenne pepper to the mix, although a bit grainy with the powders but it adds a nice punch to it.
Thanks again for sharing GGMS in the first place.
Mayra
Michele
Thank you. Sounds similar to my morning ACV shot I drink. The only thing I’m concerned with when sipping all day is the ACV because I’ve heard that it can be damaging to tooth enamel. What do you know about this?
Jacqueline
Hi, Michele! I would be concerned, too, if it wasn’t such a small portion of the whole. The raw apple cider vinegar is like 1/20th of the whole drink~ 😀
Blessings!! ~J
Bobbie
Hi, I’m not big on putting ice in my drinks…can I not just fill it up with water?
Jacqueline
Absolutely, Bobbie! I hardly ever use ice, but if it is a hot day and I’m toting it with me somewhere I might. Feel free to tweak to how you like it!
Blessings, J
Whitney
I’ve followed THM for a few years and recently discovered this gem of a resource. I’m thrilled to see you reference them (and their mother at Above Rubies). I thoroughly enjoy learning from your blog and appreciate your tendencies toward common sense and research; so much information that I couldn’t possibly find on my own. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us. May God bless you.
Jacqueline
Aw Thank you, Whitney! I LOVE Above Rubies (Nancy Campbell) and Pearl and Serene! 😀
