There is a growing concern regarding the ingredients that food industries are sneaking inside our favorite products. Some are easy to discern as “bad” such as high fructose corn syrup and MSG. Others are cloaked in fancy wording, making it harder to decipher. We may even read the ingredient labels in health food store items since they can’t always be trusted. You would hate to feed your family tainted, adulterated goods! Their health is at stake and we know how important it is to properly feed our bodies.
Sadly, when it comes to purchasing books, videos, toys and other “character foods” for our children, we often look at the cover and deem it “good” with a quick glance.
If it is found at a Christian store, we may not even bother to read the content. We don’t always spend the time to dig further to discern how all the words and images will affect the spiritual growth of the child. However, their souls are at stake and isn’t it more imperative that we properly feed our living temples?
It breaks my heart to walk into a home where a well intentioned mother, sends her child off with a healthy, homemade snack, of the finest quality, non-GMO, gluten free, organic ingredients (you get the idea), just to see that same child pour over a book glamorizing occult figures in a “cute” way. Oh dear mothers, if only that same passionate energy could be funneled into all aspects of life! Everything we place in front of our families is a sort of food, an influence on the spiritual health of our bodies.
As we introduce movies, games and reading materials into our training grounds for God (the home), I encourage you to read all the labels with scrutiny. Will these items nurture a healthy outlook on our Creator, family relationships and provide a proper worldview? If not, perhaps it is time to re-evaluate our diet… one book, one DVD, one activity at a time… Although the physical body lasts a short while, the soul is eternal, so let’s feed it well!
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
