What Is A Weed?
What is this tangly mess under our big ol’ 35 foot Norway Spruce?
“A weed is but an unloved flower.” ~Ella Wheeler Wilcox
“What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered. ” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson, Fortune of the Republic, 1878
“Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them.” ~A.A. Milne
I saw this weedy mess under a big pine and was ready to tear it out…after all, it looked like it would put out seeds very soon, and then I would have even more weeding.
Whoa! Hold on there! The closer I got, I just couldn’t miss the beauty. So, I left it…Haha…but only for a couple more days.
Sometimes, we just look on the surface – as with the weed – and miss the deeper truth. We may miss the pain in someone’s heart for seeing only a rough exterior.
Oh, Father, how I desire eyes to see a needy or hurting soul as something to care for and bless. May I have the eyes and mind of Christ to look through the externals to see a wounded heart that might be residing there. Please give me a sensitive spirit, Lord.
“For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” ~1 Samuel 16:7
“I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.”
