With permission from Kristina over at Kristina Kuzmic.com, I share this delightfully awesome idea for a very cool inexpensive Valentine’s Day:
A few years ago for Valentine’s Day, I told my husband I’d like to take him out. I asked him to wear his best suit, and told him I’d be wearing a gown. We had a reservation at a very nice restaurant.
I have often thought how nice it would be to find a healthy honey-sweetened frosting that looked and tasted like those ‘not-so-very-healthy’ frostings.
You may think I’m nuts, but I have always had a problem with sugary frosting! Why? Because it is pretty and sweet, and I don’t want my children to have any fun? Well, actually not.
Since all my infertility and health problems, I just wanted them to be healthy and not be addicted to sweets in their various tempting forms. I had hoped they might pick up their Mama’s habit of slipping the gooey stuff off into a fluffy pile on the side of the plate……
When our friends from Minnesota visited last month, we knew that we needed to learn how to make a real decorator cake. We had such a delightful time doing just that!
Ana, one of our friends, specializes in making cakes. She graciously shared some of her tips and secrets with our daughter. It was great sitting around and chatting as we explored the more serious side of making a proper cake.
Update: You need to know that Ana is now our son’s wife and our dear daughter-in-love!
While my quickly captured photos are anything but extraordinary, this scrumptious frozen yogurt pie is! Served at a good friend’s graduation celebration last month, it was a huge hit, so I just had to grab some hasty images before it disappeared before my eyes.
This recipe comes from Victoria Magazine, 2013 May issue, under the name “Frozen Blueberry Yogurt Pie.”
I’ve had a craving for shortbread many times since I was a little girl traveling with my parents in England on the way to visit our large extended family in Holland.
We took a few days to ramble the summer countryside. In the afternoons, during a rain shower, we’d stop for tea in the Cotswolds and Lake District inns and enjoy crispy, little buttery confections like these.
Early this June at a friend’s graduation party, I spied a pretty plate of mouth-watering lavender shortbreads – and all those memories flooded back. Now, I have the bug to make these and a variation or two here at home….
