While summer is an appreciated and welcomed relief from the blustery cold of winter, it does bring a different kind of difficulty. The summer months draw attention to our universal struggle with biblical sexuality, and the modesty debates take a prominent role in our conversations.
[Christian girls today need courage to stand for true beauty and not slip into some worldly, counterfeit version of it. I share this post by Kristen Clark at Girl Defined (with her permission) to embolden and inspire young women (and women of all ages) to do just that.]
When I was in high school Bethany and I decided we wanted to do a really cool photo shoot of ourselves.

It was Christmas morning when 6 year old Kelly was exposed to our raunch culture for the first time. She excitedly opened one of her presents and pulled out a small doll.
It wasn’t the type of doll you might imagine a little girl playing with though. No, this was a new kind of doll. This was a doll invented as a result of people in America embracing the most recent feminist ideas.
After posing half-naked in a recent photo shoot, Emma Watson (the star in the upcoming Beauty and the Beast movie) couldn’t understand why people were calling her a hypocrite.
As an outspoken self-proclaimed feminist, some people viewed Emma’s photoshoot as quite the contradiction. They were wondering how a woman could stand for “women’s equality and female respect,” while at the same time taking part in the sexual objectification of women.
Our dear friend Johanna coined a phrase that has stuck with us (we love it!), and now we think of our plus size friends as ‘elegantly curved’! We have many beautiful, elegantly-curved friends created by God, each wonderfully and fearfully made.
As I get older and undergo the inevitable changes in my body and shape, I find it is harder to find beautifully-fitting, classy, but modest clothes for less. Still, I desire to make modesty and femininity attractive instead of frumpy, so I persevere. At whatever age we are, we must still discover for ourselves what it means to represent the Lord as His ambassadors to the world….
