When you see a small, striped, stinging creature making its way from flower to flower, you might be inclined to cry out in fear. If you’re allergic or entomophobic, it’s understandable why you’d react this way. But even if you’re not particularly fond of the humble honey bee, it’s important to realize just how important these insects actually are to our own survival….
Mosquitoes alone can’t do us much harm, but as disease carriers, these insects give us much reason to be concerned.
Mosquitoes are of interest to me since (we believed) several of our family contracted Lyme in 2009 from mosquitoes, not ticks. Plenty of mosquitoes biting in our area, but no ticks found. Tests showed we had bands positive for Lyme….
Have you ever had a chance to look closely at the detail on butterfly wings? If you take a moment to look with eyes to ‘see’, you might find evidence of God’s creational power where you least expect it.
We’re often going about our lives at such a frenetic pace that it’s easy to forget the little things, those minute details that can at times inspire true wonder, especially in the heart of a child.
Like many other American parents, I had an obsession: academic success for my child. My wake-up call was when the preschool teacher came up to me and said, “Your daughter is okay academically. But she’s failing in basic social skills like sharing and taking turns.” Not only that, but my daughter was also having trouble controlling her emotions, having sensory and anxiety issues, and had trouble simply playing by herself!
[I’ll probably catch some flak from someone who believes insecticides are perfectly safe – or from those who think natural medicine and the belief the body can heal itself, is pure quackery. If you are one of those people, this post is not for you.]
