3 Ways To Deal With Carpel Tunnel w/o Surgery or Steroids

3 Ways To Deal With Carpel Tunnel w/o Surgery or Steroids

Today, a quick secret about stopping carpel tunnel. You may very well be able to avoid the knife.

Very dear, old friends just visited, and at one point they mentioned Bruce’s carpel tunnel problem. He was told he needed surgery, but I asked him to try something first instead for a month or two before going the invasive surgical route.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) can be diagnosed when it is characterized by numbness and tingling in your thumb, index, middle and just the side of your ring finger by the middle finger. Additionally, it’s worse at night, it tends to radiate towards the elbow and shoulder and can present with elbow and shoulder pain. And then activities of daily living—like holding a steering wheel or cutting your food, fine motor skills—seem to make it worse. (source) The typical treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome is a splint, steroids, or surgery.

Dr. JM Ellis pioneered the finding that Vitamin B6 helps patients prevent surgery, and he has been studying B6 (pyridoxine) for carpel tunnel since the mid 70s. Many doctors either don’t know about it, have downplayed it, or would rather treat it with surgery because that is what they do.

In this study, Dr. JM Ellis states, “In my practice, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) therapy (100 to 200 mg daily for 12 weeks) has proved curative for a large percentage of patients having carpal tunnel syndrome.

In another study, participants “showed a great improvement in their status, and anticipated surgery for some of the patients became unnecessary. It is concluded that patients with a severe syndrome including the carpal tunnel defect have a deficiency of vitamin B6, and that both the syndrome and the deficiency are relieved by therapy with pyridoxine.”

I will let Dr. Berg, an excellent teacher and retired chiropractor, explain Vit B6—and see the dosages below.

2 minutes.

1. Vitamin B6 for Carpel Tunnel

Dr. Berg suggests taking 100mg pyridoxal 5’-phosphate capsule (a special form of B6) 2 times a day.

If you’re deficient in zinc, taking vitamin B6 will not work. Make sure you take zinc as well—about 50mg/day. Here is a synthetic-free whole food zinc.

If you’re on a high carb diet (breads, pasta, cereal), that could be why you’re deficient in zinc. Stress also depletes zinc.

Vitamin B6 may work because it acts as an analgesic. It raises your pain threshold, so you don’t feel the pain as much or at all.

This nutritional yeast flakes may be an alternative and helpful for pain. It is very high in the full range of B vitamins, and is a great way to get all the Bs as a whole food. It is not wise to take one of the B vits alone for very long without the full range to keep things in balance. Dr. Berg does sell a nutritional yeast tablet (7 per day), but it contains unnecessary, and frankly unhealthy, synthetic additives.

2. An acupressure technique can be done in addition to taking vitamin B6

Dr. Berg also gives a demonstration of a specific massage you can do to really help to neutralize the pain signals. With this unique technique, you’re actually going to want to work on the opposite arm than the one that’s causing you pain.  Watch a 2 minute demonstration to really see how it’s done.

Remember, if you have carpel tunnel on one side only, you work on the muscles of the opposite wrist. If you have carpel tunnel on both sides, you work on one side at a time, and work first on the side where the pain started first.

3. Homeopathy for Carpel Tunnel

When faced with a conventional diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in her practice, Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says she often turns to Symphytum officinale 200 mixed with Ruta graveolens 30, twice daily, until very much better, with much success.

Symphytum is specific for bone conditions. Ruta is indicated for sprains, bone bruises and any complaint involving cartilage, tendons or bone surfaces.

She would add Hypericum perforatum 200, as needed, for acute nerve pain. Consider Hypericum for pain from inflammation, incisions, lacerations and wounds — particularly those that involve nerve-rich areas.

“Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!” ~Psalm 90:17

Hi! I’m Jacqueline!

Thanks for being part of this journey with me.
Welcome to my own little place on the internet! Home is where I love to be. I feel there is no greater place to incubate souls. These days you’ll find me using my experiences here to write about herbal remedies and natural health research — a big passion of mine. But being a wife and mother is not easy. It is challenging and potentially lonely. I get that. I wanted to create a place to connect with and support other moms for creating a natural, healthy, and fulfilling home life.

    Hello Jacqueline!
I wanted to share additional info on another way to heal the root cause of carpal tunnel.
22 years ago I had severe carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands and caring for our little ones was difficult. The Lord directed our family to a very special type of Chiropractic to heal not just the Carpal Tunnel but sciatic nerve pain, muscle aches and more. From forward head posture caused by nursing my babies and rounding my shoulders and generally poor posture, my head was 41mm too far forward- in front of my midline. I was developing what would turn in to a “Dowager’s Hump” if not treated. This caused great pressure on my spine and caused problems from head to toe. Chiropractic BioPhysics was tremendous. We also used their Scoli Brace when a daughter had bad scoliosis. This prevented her needing surgery. Praise God.

Maybe this info will bless one of your readers.

      Thank you, Andrea!
I will definitely check this out. With my spinal issues (which started to go downhill from the drug Lupron used for infertility treatments back in the late 80s), I am fighting some curvature.

      I appreciate you!

And I appreciate you, sweet friend.
CBP Chiropractic uses adjustments combined with postural exercises and traction. That link I sent has a “find a doctor” link on it. I pray it is a blessing to you.

Andrea, thank you for that! I am doing some traction and lots of spinal exercises here at home and it is working, but will dig in and read more soon!
          Hugs to you, sister! ~J

Thanks for sharing your story – that’s very interesting.

I have read work by Katy Bowman (Biomechanist) and she talks about the hunchback (kyphosis) coming from a lack of strength in the muscles between our shoulder blades and spine. Those muscles can be strengthened by doing a lot more reaching with our arms in different directions.

One exercise she teaches is called “Paint the Inside of Your Globe.” You imagine that you’re inside a globe and reach out with you arms and hands as far as you can to make painting motions with your hands in many different directions, including as far back as you can reach.

Another simple technique she teaches to get more reaching motions in every day life is to just reach up and touch the top of the door jam every time you go through a door.

Many years ago I read this article about a reclined nursing position being much more healthy and natural for both Mom and Baby.

Katie, that is fascinating, too! I do upper back exercises and also use Dakota traction to keep everything strong and in the proper flexion.
Thanks for mentioning that breastfeeding factor.
        Blessings to you all,
        Jacque

        Katie,
Thanks for sharing the reclined breastfeeding article. It was fascinating. It makes sense to me that God would purposefully design feeding our babies this way. I had seen a breast-crawl video years before we had our children, I believe, but sadly, I didn’t think to use this position often at all. It could have prevented my back issues!
