3:00: Newsela is used by English language arts, social study, history teachers and also for some core content subjects.
3:36: Texas banned Critical Race Theory in their schools, BUT Texas just partnered with Newsela to write the state assessments for students in Texas! Literally, the organization that gets the 1619 project into classrooms will be writing the state assessments for students in Texas.
Attorneys and Texas school teachers have found “legal” ways to implement 1619 Project.
It’s outrageous.
“Newsela partners with the 1619 Project so they can teach that exact same content. The parents are only put off by the labels, so as long as they don’t see the label on it, the teachers are not afraid to teach the content… as long as it is tied back to the state standards.”
4:50: If you think that Newsela isn’t in your state, you are probably wrong, because it is nearly everywhere. They claim to be in over 90% of school districts across the country.
5:03: Newsela claims over 25 million students and more than 2 million teachers signed up now.
