Dr. Mercola: Nebulized Peroxide, the Single Most Effective Early Strategy

Dr. Mercola: Nebulized Peroxide, the Single Most Effective Early Strategy

Dr. Mercola encourages a not-so-well-known single strategy that everyone should remember if there is a sudden onset of acute respiratory infection.

Right now, it is extremely wise to stay out of the hospital: The Hospital Protocol Is What Is Killing Covid Flu Patients

By having a desktop nebulizer and a few inexpensive things on hand (and doing a dry run of this protocol), you will be ready if/when you need to use it and can nip any infection in the bud.

Ideally, nebulizing (with Hydrogen Peroxide and Lugol’s Iodine) is most effective as a ‘mono treatment’ if you do it the same day you have a hint of the onset of flu or Covid associated symptoms (scratchy throat, cough, slight congestion etc.).

Dr. Mercola Lists Supporting Supplements

1 minute. Dr. Mercola’s protocol:

Peroxide Nebulization and COVID Resolution

Dr. Mercola points to documentation from two medical doctors who have used nebulized peroxide extensively in their practices: Drs. Thomas Levy and David Brownstein.

Dr. Thomas Levy is someone I really enjoy reading. A great story about Hydrogen Peroxide (HP) Nebulization to treat COVID explains exactly how easy and powerful nebulizing HP is – wherever you are!

In summary, Dr. Levi took a trip to Colombia before Covid in 2019, where he treated his wife’s friend with an acute febrile respiratory infection using the nebulizer and 3% HP he had brought with him on the trip. He left it with her and soon the pandemic hit. Months later, he and his wife returned to Columbia to find the woman had used his nebulizer and 3% HP to successfully treat some 20 different individuals with COVID infection. “Of particular note is that some of the patients had such advanced infections that severe respiratory difficulty was apparent. In a similar setting in the United States early in 2020, all of the patients having such severe shortness of breath would have been promptly intubated and given mechanically-assisted ventilation on respirator machines.”

In the event you are an independent thinker, can follow simple directions, and want to stay out of the hospital with early prophylactic or acute use, this anecdotally illustrates the uncomplicated effectiveness and reliability of nebulizing 3% HP.

More Evidence Supporting Saline & Peroxide Nebulization

Dr. David Brownstein with other co-authors, published a study on nebulized peroxide for COVID-19.

“A total of 107 COVID-19 subjects utilized the nebulized solution. They reported no adverse effects. We have been using nebulized saline/hydrogen peroxide at this concentration for over two decades in his practice. Is nebulized peroxide diluted with saline, with or without iodine, dangerous? No. There’s no evidence to suggest there’s a danger to this protocol, unless you radically violate recommendations on dilution.” ~Dr. David Brownstein

Aside from having antiviral effects, nebulizing peroxide will also improve oxygenation and breathing in general, and can be very helpful for smokers. This makes sense as peroxide breaks down in your body into water and oxygen. Brownstein believes it also has a detoxifying effect on the lungs. (source)

Note: nebulizing hydrogen peroxide is contraindicated in those with Down Syndrome.

The Mercola Basic Peroxide Recipe: (a must read for accuracy)

Dr. Mercola: Nebulized Peroxide, the Single Most Effective Early Strategy
(Source) Mix these amounts in a glass with plastic lid. Will keep for about 3 months.

Note: to optimize your benefits, be sure to obtain an electric tabletop nebulizer. Dr. Mercola points out, the battery-driven handheld versions ARE NOT as effective. In nearly all cases where patients were NOT getting better, they were using a small handheld nebulizer. Once they got the more powerful version that can drive the peroxide deep into the lungs, the treatment worked as it should.

Resources:

• The nebulizer we use sold out last month, but this nebulizer is similar.

• Normal saline (0.9%)

• Food grade Hydrogen peroxide in 3% or 12%

You Can Also Make Your Own Saline: Dr. Mercola says you could make your own by mixing one teaspoon of unprocessed salt (such as Himalayan salt, Celtic salt or Redmond’s real salt) into a pint of pure water. This will give you a 0.9% saline solution, which is essentially the concentration found in body fluids. (source)

How To Nebulize:

Read the nebulizer instructions. Nebulize 2-5 times a day for 3-5 minutes or longer if possible. Put on the mask and breath deeply through both nose and mouth, alternately, to get the fine mist into the deepest parts of the lungs, but also into the sinus cavities where the mist can kill the invader. Hold it for a second before exhaling. Listen to your body and continue more or less often as needed and until you are fully recovered. This method has saved many, many lives.

Use of Lugol’s Iodine:

Dr. Brownstein outlines use of nebulizing Lugol’s here: “If you’re using 5% Lugol’s solution, simply add one drop to your nebulizer after filling it with the diluted peroxide solution. If you’re using 2% Lugol’s solution, which is available over the counter, add two drops. Of course, this should be done with a doctor’s consultation.” (source)(source)

Lugol’s iodine 2% is unique in its formulation as it has Potassium Iodide (10%) along with Elemental Iodine (5%) mixed together with distilled water. This is what makes it so effective. Lugol’s Iodine solution was developed in 1829 by Jean Guillaume August Lugol, a French Physician, as a cure for Tuberculosis.

“The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” ~Job 33:4

    Hello Jacqueline-
I am a bit confused on what the purpose of the Iodine is? It appears in this article and the one before this post (on the use of nebulizing) a few of the doctors dont mention the use of Iodine, but just of the HP and Saline.. Can you share why/what the use of the Iodine is and if it is necessary.. Thank you for any additional information.. MS

      Hi, Michelle,
Iodine is recognized as a strong antiviral. You can use it (as we do) or leave it out. It just increases efficacy. I added this section to the post to clarify more: “Dr. Brownstein mentions use of nebulizing Lugol’s here: “If you’re using 5% Lugol’s solution, simply add one drop to your nebulizer after filling it with the diluted peroxide solution. If you’re using 2% Lugol’s solution, which is available over the counter, add two drops. Of course, this should be done with a doctor’s consultation.”

      Hope that’s helpful,

    Hi Jacqueline,

I appreciate all of the resources you offer here. I recently came down with a cold and, like you, I follow Dr. Mercola, so I was prepared with my arsenal of supplements and nebulizer per his sharing of Dr. Brownstein’s protocol. I may not have used the nebulizer early enough, I felt something slight the night before and downed all the extra supplements then, but I didn’t nebulize until the next morning. My cold seems to be running it’s usual course, I am really hoping to prevent myself from having a month long chest cold, as is usually the case. I have a couple of questions I was hoping you may be able to answer. I have been using 1/2 teaspoon (approx. 5 CCs, I believe) of the HP/saline solution and adding the 2-4 drops of 2% Lugol’s. First I did the .05% solution and 2 drops iodine for a couple of days then increased to .1% solution since then and increased the iodine to 4 drops. I have done this only a couple times a day as it is pretty strong. Does this sound like I’m doing this right? I’m also steaming Oil of Oregano and other essential oils a couple times a day. I’ve always steamed eucalyptus, but learned about Oil of Oregano from your site!) I am on day 7 of this thing and I wrote note that Dr. Brownstein says this protocol is for first 4/5 days, so I don’t know if I keep this going, or dial it down (both the supplements and nebulizing) or nebulize more if my chest congestion becomes worse. (I’m at the stage where it is leaving my head and I’m feeling great, but I’m also starting to feel it in my chest, so I’m concerned.) Any thoughts, suggestions? (I know my vitamin D level was already up there, as I’ve been consistent in taking that and zinc, etc…just added quercetin a week ago or so. I’ve been taking NAC 600 since start of infection, 1200 since day 4)…I understand you are not offering any medical advice, but I’m asking you as a mom! Thank you!

          Hi, Corinna,

As I told Lori, I would do 3 or even 4 treatments of 3-4 minutes a day. Breathe as deeply as possible, hold it, and cough to clear any mucous plugs so you can inhale even more deeply.
You should feel more and more relief the more you do.

I pray that proper nebulizing will keep many out of the hospital.

          Blessings!

and to make 1.5%, just half the salt!

Hi, EP, Yes you can do this with all ages, including babies, but saline may be all you need for a baby, though I know .1% HP has been used aas well as nanosilver and glutathione. There are a number of posts that show this for little ones: https://deeprootsathome.com/nebulizing-saline-or-hydrogen-peroxide-for-lung-ailments-rsv/

I truly believe Dr Mercolas protocol works!! My husband is walking talking proof. We followed most of his protocol as soon as my hubby woke up with a fever and cough. He also had severe difficulty breathing. We hit it hard and fast and within 24 hours he was 100% better. We didnt go to be tested but still whatever it was thr protocol took care of it. We also used xlear spray that is obtained over thr counter.

Is it possible to use regular non-food grade hydrogen peroxide? I ordered some food grade, but it’s not coming until Tuesday. I need it today preferably, so if I can use regular, that’s great.

We found one at the local pharmacy. It’s a pediatric nebulizer and we purchased an adult mask that can also be used with it. We plan to give it a test run soon. For those who can’t find a nebulizer online, try your local pharmacies. Ours had to order it in because they were out of stock, but it came in quickly.

Thought I would let you know my recent findings on this nebulizer: I bought this one a few months ago and it works great, so I was going to buy some extra accessories for it, such as filters, which need to be replaced monthly -but there are none. I don’t know if filters for other types of nebulizer will work for this one. I also saw a lot of recent negative reviews about faulty nebulizers, nebulizers sent without the necessary accessories and that the item is non-returnable.

      Hi, Stacey,
I do know that this is a solid and reliable nebulizer. You can use a piece of a cotton ball to replace the filters when they run out, and just a thought – unless you are using it several time daily for many weeks in a row, you won’t need to prelace the filter very often. Do check it and see if it is cruddy in any way and replace it then. Yes, personal machines like these are usually not returnable, that is whay getting a really good one is the best value.

On the chart, it says for the 3% hydrogen peroxide, mix 1/4 tsp of hydrogen peroxide with 7 1/4 tsp normal saline. Is that one dose and you put all of it in the nebulizer? If it’s one dose, then how much of the iodine should you use?

      Hi, Wanita,
No, it wouldn’t all fit into the medicine cup because it doens’t hold much. You would store that solution in the refrigerator.
The text right above the chart states “if you pre-dilute down to 0.04% it will stay potent for about 3 months when kept in the refrigerator and if you do a .1%, it will stay potent a bit longer.”
For using iodine each time you nebulize: “If you’re using 5% Lugol’s solution, simply add one drop to your nebulizer after filling it with the diluted peroxide solution. If you’re using 2% Lugol’s solution, which is available over the counter, add two drops.”

      I hope that helps!

Frances, it is very common to cough a lot when one focuses on nebulizing deep in the chest.
I can’t say for sure for you, but it likely is a similar reaction (it is loosening infection there and logical that your body will want to expell it).
Is there any production coming out of your sinuses?
Gently blow your nose frequently to assist it out.
        I wish you good health!

Hi – Is there any support why this treatment won’t work for kids with Down Syndrome? “Note: Nebulizing hydrogen peroxide is contraindicated in the Down’s Syndrome population. ” We’ve had a COVID exposure in our house, and we’ve been using this treatment for everyone but my daughter (who’s 6 and has Down Syndrome). She has suffered from RSV in the past, and I’m hoping this treatment would work for her. If you could offer any more insight/notes around that comment – I would greatly appreciate it.

Yes, there is evidence that it isn’t helpful for Down Syndrome: http://ceri.com/downs2.htm
“With over-production of SOD, catalase and glutathione peroxidase are challenged to keep up with the accelerated production of hydrogen peroxide. When they don’t, excess hydrogen peroxide accumulates in the cells and tissues (see Figure 2) causing increased oxidative stress, free-radical proliferation and accelerated aging.”

I would instead use 3% saline or even nano-silver (but not HP) in the nebulizer for your daughter. This post will explain: https://deeprootsathome.com/nebulizing-saline-or-hydrogen-peroxide-for-lung-ailments-rsv/

Thanks for all your helpful posts on this topic! I recently came down with co-vid and I felt much better after I started nebulizing with the H2O2 as you suggested. I also had been taking many of the suggested supplements and teas from the beginning of my symptoms and I think this helped immensely (NAC, l-glutathione, zinc, vit C, etc) to reduce symptoms. So, now that I’ve had this, what would you recommend going forward? I know the risk isn’t the same as if I’d had the “v”, but I have now obviously been exposed to the virus (and it’s spike proteins, etc). Would you take the same prevention protocol? I started TRS recently and am hopeful.
(FYI, to avoid using the questionable nasal swab, I just used a clean Q-tip for the home test. The test I took only required you to put the swab barely into your nostril – thought this was the least invasive way since I had to do the test.)
    Blessings to you!

I am so glad to hear that you and so many are really doing well with the nebulizer treatments. They are the safest, easiest and least expensive way I know to stay or get well.
I would just stay on the full protocol (as much as you feel is helpful). This combination of ways to combat the spike protein is working very well for thousands of individuals at this time.

It would be useful to administer/nebulize TRS (diluted in saline) which is a detox that is helpful in mold situations, but it better to use it orally over 6-8 months to clear your body of the mycotoxins load you already have.
That is what is causing the reaction when you are around molds..
You can also use nanosilver when you need an antibiotic or glutathione when you want to give your body an immune boost.
      Read this: https://deeprootsathome.com/nebulizing-nanosilver-glutathione-for-lung-ailments-the-how-to/

I am about to use the treatment but am wondering how many CC’s of the solution (2, 4 or 6) in the nebulizer is to be used with the ratio of 2 drops of the 2% iodine that was recommended? If I fill up the nebulizer then it is 6CC’s… is that the amount I add the 2 drops of iodine to? Thank you for all the research you are doing!!!

Hi, JES! Wow, it is great to hear from you!
Technically, you can use use 2 drops in 4 or 6 ccs (mls) of saline or whatever solution you are using.
God bless you all, old friend!

What treatment would you recommend for a 17 year old with headache, body aches, 99.4 temp, slight cough? I have a well stocked supplement cabinet and a nebulizer…hydrogen peroxide, silver, glutathione, grapefruit seed extract, oil of oregano, Propolis, vitamin c, d, zinc, quercetin, NAC….so many things but just don’t know exactly what to use!

        Hi, Evelyn,

None of the doctors that use this regularly in their practices have ever made the statement that it is unsafe for use in pregnancy, and anecdotally, I know many, many who have used it at the VERY dilute .01% and done very well.

Yes, Downs Syndrome is an exception and that is why I mentioned it. See: http://ceri.com/downs2.htm

If you are concerned at all, I would probably stick with .09% saline.
We have been nebulizing a very tiny 4 week old, and it has cleared up her chesty cough and congestion nicely in just 2 treatments of 4 minutes each. The mask was held 1″ from her face.

My advise is to always seek the Holy Spirit for these kind of things. He has never let me down and given me the mama’s intuition to do or not to do something amazingly accurately.

        Sending peace,
        Jacqueline

Regarding mobilizing the 4 month old, is that with H.P? Or just a saline? And is the nanosilver or glutathione safe for that age? Asking as a momma I’m unsure what to so with a 5 mo. old who is trying to cough up mucus and then cries. Thank you so very much.

Grace, first I would try just normal (O.9%) or 3% (both are safe at any age). See this post: https://deeprootsathome.com/nebulizing-saline-or-hydrogen-peroxide-for-lung-ailments-rsv/
You can also use the HP in saline at 0.1% which is also safe for all ages (.1% is extremely dilute). Read more here: https://deeprootsathome.com/dr-mercola-nebulized-peroxide-the-single-most-effective-early-strategy/
I would opt for the saline approach first.

I am praying for you and your little one! I just love what nebulizing can do to alleviate respiratory difficulties!

I’m currently nursing an 11 month old and having no luck finding a protocol for nebulizer that is indicated as safe for breastfeeding. I’ve read that the Betadine one is too much iodine potentially for a nursing mom but I’m at a loss otherwise. Should I stick with just saline? I can’t imagine the HP would be harmful but I’ve never nebulized before. I’ve seen that this protocol is not recommended for Downs but nothing about pregnant or nursing. I understand you can’t give medical advise. Just looking for perhaps suggestions on where to look for more information on reasons for caution? Maybe personal experience or anecdotes? Thanks!!!

Hello- I have nebulizer that I purchased that was not made in the USA.
Should I be concerned about using it?
What exactly is the concern with a non-profit USA made machine…
Is it the filter possibly? If so, can I make a safe filter someway?

Thank you for your constant research and help to us all!

Sadly, I haven’t been able to find a good desktop unit made in the US that doesn’t require a prescription. I looked at this US unit: https://www.shopnebulizer.com/p-devilbiss-pulmo-aide-compact-compressor-nebulizer-system.html
It will not work for most bc they can’t get a prescription.

      I don’t understand what you mean by a non-profit USA made machine…

I don’t really know if there is a downside from the units coming from China. We love ours, but it was sold out long ago.

The filter is not in direct line with the patient using it, so doubt the filter is a problem, and one can always use a thin piece of cotton ball.

      I hope that helps.
      Blessings,

Hawthorn berry is the best herb I know of for heart. Cayenne pepper is probably just as good as hawthorn for the heart. Garlic is great, too. Calcium is the most important mineral for health. Getting plenty of fresh raw milk is the best source of calcium.

Would it be safe for them to use Lugol’s iodine or the l-glutathione in a nebulizable form? With saline? Thank you!!

      Hi, Michelle,
Yes, one can use saline (normal saline 0.9% or hypertonic 3%) with DS, also nanosilver and Lugol’s.
It is just the HP that creates an issus. I wish I knew more about why not, but I would avoid it for a DS child or adult.

    Hi Jacqueline!

I just wanted to share a couple more ideas for remedies that are great for chest colds, flu, lung ailments.

First, I recently remembered my mom telling me how my grandmother treated a nasty chest cold of hers decades ago with a mustard plaster on her chest and a tall glass of ginger ale with a little brandy. (Turns out Grandma added more than a little brandy, but Mom didn’t know till after she woke up 14 hours later feeling all better!).

The very day government restrictions began here in 2020, we were at an immigrant family’s for supper. They made linden flower tea to sip after our meal and told us, “We’ll never get c0v1d because we drink this tea. It makes the lungs strong.” I noticed the tea also helped digestion and settled the nerves. I talked with others and soon learned that many of the immigrants from Europe/Eastern Europe/Russia collect linden flowers (in full bloom) from the linden trees in mid-summer and dry them to use for tea year-round. The trees bloom for about a week, so it’s good to check regularly. Pick the flower and stem with the first light green narrow leaf attached and dry whole. Linden tree flowers are beautifully fragrant and a top pick for honey bees and pollinators!

    Happy February!

Jacqueline, Regarding nebulizing. I bought my machine from justnebulizers.com. They have a variety in stock. I bought the table top one for $35. It’s great, very happy with it.
I have a question about using the peroxide saline solution in the nebulizer. You recommend breathing deeply alternately through the nose and mouth. You also mention to hold your breath for a few seconds when you do so. How does one do that when the nebulizer is working and the vapor is coming? Does one take their mouth of it a few seconds to hold your breath? Could you please clarify that for me? I appreciate any response. Thank you, Jan Leckron

Thank you for that link, Jan.
It is just as I wrote in the post under “How To Nebulize”: “Breath deeply through both nose and mouth, alternately, to get the fine mist into the deepest parts of the lungs, but also into the sinus cavities where the mist can kill the invader. Hold it for a second before exhaling. Listen to your body and continue more or less often as needed and until you are fully recovered. This method has saved many, many lives.”

      I hope that helps!

Jennifer, while nebulizing in the early stages os covid is most important, no, it is not a waste at all to continue, esp as inexpensive it is and how simple to do.
I know many who were slow to see a turnaround towards health, but they are the ones who would have been far worse off if they didn’t persist and finally, the body responded!

    Hi Jacqueline,
Would you clarify how to use the Lugol’s 2% iodine please? You add 2 drops of 2% lugo’s iodine for how much of the .1% concentration hydrogen peroxide? ( how many ounces, teaspoons or cc’s, etc of the diluted hydrogen peroxide solution per each 2 drops of 2% Lugo’s? )

Hi, Chaya, however much of the HP/saline solution you add into the nebulizer’s medicine cup (whether it’s half or 3/4 full), just add 2 drops of the 2% to that (but not a 3rd drop). It is enough. There is no magic formula or ratio. It is simply a powerful add-on, and the combination has saved many lives.

Once I make the .1% peroxide concentration; I am wondering – should I only nebulize 5ml? Or more?

Another question, should I make the .1% peroxide concentration with normal saline .9% or hypertonic saline 3%?

        Thank you so much!

Laura, just make it with normal saline (0.9%). And the machine can only nebulize anything you’ve added to the med cup at one rate, so just fill it with the .1% peroxide concentration and it will only use as much as it takes to do 4-5 minutes of nebulizing at a time. You may want to reread that section to make sure it is clear to you.
Sometimes we can do 2 or 3 sessions with different family members back to back because I put so much solution in there. Hope that makes sense and answers your question.
          Blessings,

      Hi, Shannon,
I’m wondering where you are seeing a nebulizer with “lots of negative 2-star reviews”?
The desktop nebulizer that I link to throughout the Nebulized Peroxide post with Dr. Mercola’s protocol has a very high rating and 76% 5 star reviews. https://deeprootsathome.com/dr-mercola-nebulized-peroxide-the-single-most-effective-early-strategy/
The nebulizer I link to is a good nebulizer and exactly like the 4 I own. I kept one here and the other 3 circulating to sick people during “COVID” and there were no problems at all with any of the 4: https://amzn.to/44D07WF
Thank you for your kind encouragement, though. I am led to help others here online since I refuse to work in the corrupt medical system today.

Please let me know if I’m missing something as I would be willing to fix it if it was a broken link or a bad product.

Thank you for the reply. Before purchasing a product, I always read through the negative reviews to see what people have to say. If a lot of people say the same thing(s) over and over, I tend to avoid the product.

I am clicking on the links in your post, taking me directly to the nebulizer on Amazon. While it does have lots of positive reviews, 10% of the total reviews are 1 star (that’s a lot of negative reviews). Many state having issues with the product not working properly or not working at all, etc. Maybe you could read through them to see what you think.

It’s good to know you’ve used this nebulizer and they’ve been helpful. With so many 1-star reviews, I was hesitant to purchase one.
