“The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes.” ~
Resolutions for my new year include:
~more time to engage others, less busyness
~more thanksgiving, less grumbling
~more healthy choices, no future medications and doctors
~more face to face or phone communication, less email or texting (where possible)
~more exercise, less sitting
~more time for souls, less time for stuff
~more early-to-rise, less late to bed
~more giving, less consuming
~more enjoying home, less running around
~more fellowship and laughter, less ‘entertainment’
~more real, less artificial
~more books, less computer
~more making music, less electronics
~more home-cooking, less fast food
~more simplicity, less complexity
~more of the Word, less of the world
May this next year
- bring you closer to Christ
- farther away from the lesser passions which would steal you from Him
BUT WAIT – the best resolution!!
There is one more resolution I wish to touch on…certainly the most important resolution of all if we do it~
~more humble prayer, less anxiety and fear
The Word of God tells us to “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” ~1 Peter 5: 6-7
The best resolution
First, we must acknowledge that we are not in control. We must admit that we are powerless and submit to God. We really need to get on our knees before Him and humbly acknowledge all that He is: Sovereign King, Wise Creator, All Powerful and All Knowing God, and finally, we must call Him “LORD” and accept Him as our Lord and Savior!
When we finally give it over and get to the end of ourselves, give up our solutions, we are on the right track. We humble ourselves by casting all our fears, needs, worries, pressures, and anxieties on God in prayer.
Unbelievably – the one who created everything cares about whether we’re lonely or not.
About that crisis that causes us to be fearful.
He cares about our children and loves them even more than we do.
He calls each one of us by name and knows the number of hairs on our heads.
He knows exactly what we need.
The part I love the best is the promise: At the proper time God will exalt us. He will lift us up. We do not stay in the pit forever…and His timing is perfect for His glory and our joy at being rescued by the lover of our souls!
We do NOT have to worry about all these resolutions in our own power this year.
It is NOT about us after all!
Let us simply bow down and humble ourselves before the King of Kings who cares for us so much more than we will ever know. He has offered us the resolution of a lifetime and it starts today!
This year let us daily cast our cares on Him, for He cares for us.
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” ~Ephesians 6:18
“Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.”
~Jesus, Lover Of My Soul, timeless hymn by Charles Wesley, 1740

Julianne
well said! I love that verse you shared in 1 peter- humbling ourselves! what is funny is that the times I had a hard time giving up control thinking if I held on to it I would feel more secure- those were the times I lacked the most peace and joy. Giving it all to the Lord- hurts, worries, fear- then you’ll experience the peace that passeth all understanding. It’s a great lesson indeed! Thank you for your post. 🙂
Norma
