Dr. Berg is an excellent educator and will make this super simple to understand. Listen to the end. 13 minutes.
The History Behind the American Heart Assn.’s Lie that Saturated Fats Were Terrible and Vegetable Oils Were Healthy In 4 Minutes:
Proctor & Gamble entered the shortening business out of financial necessity. In the 1890s, the meat packing monopoly controlled the price of lard and tallow needed to make P&G’s candles and soap. They needed another income stream, so P&G took steps to gain control of the cottonseed oil business from farm to factory. By 1905, they owned eight cottonseed mills in Mississippi. In 1907, P&G developed the science of hydrogenation. By adding hydrogen atoms to the fatty acid chain of cottonseed oil, this revolutionary industrial process transformed liquid cottonseed oil into a solid that resembled lard. They called it Crisco. (source)
During World War II, Crisco served as a submarine lubricant. It offered high viscosity, low freezing point, and resistance to corrosion. It worked as a submarine lubricant because it extended engine life and reduced maintenance. (source)
1911: Procter & Gamble invents Crisco – hydrogenated cottonseed oil.
Problem: Nobody wants to cook with cottonseed oil. It’s an industrial waste used for making soap.
Solution: Marketing campaign to convince Americans that animal fats cause heart disease.
1948: American Heart Association (AHA) is tiny organization with $1,700 budget.
Also 1948: Procter & Gamble donates $1.7 million to the American Heart Association. The AHA suddenly becomes influential and well-funded.
1961: The AHA issues their first dietary guidelines: Avoid saturated fat. Use vegetable oils instead.
Recommended oils: Crisco and other vegetable oils.
Who benefits: Procter & Gamble.
Who funded the AHA: Procter & Gamble.
1980s: Trans fats (in Crisco and margarine) are discovered to be catastrophically unhealthy.
2015: Trans fats are finally banned as unsafe.
For 67 years, the American Heart Association recommended a product that:
• Was invented as soap ingredient
• Was made from industrial waste
• Was later proven to cause heart disease
• Was produced by their founding mega-donor
And they told you butter would kill you while recommending literal poison.
When trans fats were finally proven deadly, they quietly changed recommendations without acknowledging the millions who followed their advice.
No apologies. No accountability. Guidelines adjusted. Move on.
The organization you’re told to trust for heart health was created by a soap company to sell industrial waste as food.
That is junk science.

Healthwise – this might be one of the most important posts of your blog. Even if you do not change anything else in your diet – just use the oils Dr. Berg describes – you feel healthier in a short time… I could not understand why I experienced in the past swelling and inflammation… with a “healty diet” …and it was the Sunflower Oil, Rapeseed Oils. As soon as I made sure to bake the potatoes with lard or tallow… no more inflammation or swelling. I take only coconut or butter for sauteing vegetables.. and we have no side effects anymore. Thank you for always bringing out these amazing posts!
Jacqueline
Aw, thank you, Danae! You are so kind! I really needed that today. Hugs, Jacque

Used Crisco for many years for my cookies because that was the recipe said for the fat. I would like to make them once again once in a while. Not sure what to use instead-butter and skip the salt? I do have some cookie recipes that call for butter which I make.
Jacqueline
Hi, Sue! Yes, I would give them a try and use real butter! I think you will like the results, but try one batch first to check out how they hold together. I make all my cookies with butter and a few with unrefined coconut oil. Both are solid at room temp. Please let me/us know if you have a moment!
Blessings! ~Jacque

Hello you two! Yes, I make my cookies with butter and they are much better than with any other ingredient… and I always use brown sugar, coconutsugar, molasses or maple sirup – it gives everything a more caramelised taste… and it fantastic for blood sugar issues… much healthier… and much tastier… don’t be afraid of butter…it is so much better for the body…and good amount of good fat keeps you satiated and makes you thinner over time!! Sounds crazy but it is true… All of you have a wonderful Christmas time wherever you are with all the blessings and love for your families…
Jacqueline
Danae,
We love our grass-fed butter and eat a lot of it! What you say is so true about butter making you feel satisfied and it does not put on the pounds! “it is so much better for the body…and good amount of good fat keeps you satiated and makes you thinner over time!!” My husband’s mother cooked and baked with Crisco and she went from very healthy when they used the butter from their dairy to very unhealthy when she started buying Crisco! She died from heart disease and a stroke at 65!!! They had the perfect “oil” right at their fingertips, but were deceived into buying a man-made poison! It is so sad to me because she was a wonderful woman and mother!
Merry Christmas, Sue and Danae! ~J

Dear Jacque, That is exactly why I believe this is one of the most important posts you ever written. Now, that I know I can see how devastating trans oils are on the body. 2 years ago I ate some pralines from a local shop we always bought them from and the next day I was swollen so badly – my face my fingers that I could not believe it. At first I did not suspect the praline – so small I thought I reacted to something else. However, my husband’s reaction was a bad headache… Finally, I suspected the praline and went back to the shop and asked them if they changed anything in the recipe… and the maker added “Rapeseed Oil”! Just one praline had such a devastating effect! A friend of ours had a nearly ruptured artery in the neck – before his operation, he made his will. Luckily, he survived. I asked him – even if he does not change anything else – just change the oils… within 3 weeks he felt so much better. He was so grateful, when he wrote to me that he noticed he felt renewed by just stopping to eat fried foods. Then he took a natural food course with his wife and now makes his own sauerkraut… the amazing news is within 6 months he had to have a colonoscopy as his father died of colon cancer and they told him that he needs to be checked every year. For the first time in all his time he did this he had no polyps/abscess they needed to remove in 10 years! That is how powerful good traditional food is… Sending you all love and blessings.
Jacqueline
Danae, I bet those pralines would taste so much better with real butter, but (poisonous) rapeseed is cheap. He likely thinks he is increasing his profit margin, but may be inadvertently killing off his customer base in the long term.
I am so glad you could talk with your friend and that he listened… and is now making sauerkraut! How cool!
I do suspect the seed oils do far more damage than we ever realized.
Thank you! J

Jackie If you subsitute grassfed butter for Crisco, do you use the same measurement? I use Kerry Gold butter. Is there a better butter to use? Also Should I use brow sugar or something else?
Merry Christmas

Jacqueline
Hi, Donna,
Yes, butter would be used in the same measurement for most recipes. I often use Kerry Gold unsalted and add my own Himalayan salt. I also really like Vital Farms grass-fed butter, and also get raw butter locally.
I have used honey far more than brown or regular crystalline sugar.. but we have our own honeybees and have a lot of honey. I hope that helps!
Merry Christmas to you and your family,
Jacqueline
Danae
Yes, Jacque, I agree. I now check again and again the labels as nearly all companies try to cost cut and add cheap oils (even in pesto and sauces I used to buy for years without issues).
I suspect because the brain and hormonal system rely on good fats that this one thing is so extremely dangerous.
Just like your mother in law. I have seen in over an over again how dangerous these fats are. Some listen and some cling stubbornly to the brainwashing that margarine is good for your heart. (amazing how false information well planted in the unsuspecting mind can survive so long). When it is just the opposite! My husband’s sister was a UK marathon runner – always super fit – but she believed with her husband that margarine is the ultimate – they have major artery problems… I finally got her to stop, but she is now in her 70ties and that with the gene-therapy shot… has done a lot of damage… It is sad to watch. But somehow if we all live through this… I can see we will have totally new medicine… and that health will finally come back into the families…where hands-on real experience will count – not CDC and pseudo authorities that want to sell chemicals… Your teachings pave the way! He who heals is right…
