It seems like this year is one of the worst years ever for tick bites! So today, I want to pass on the established homeopathic and herbal treatments to be started immediately after a tick or mosquito bite. This is one of those posts you may want to PRINT out and own the primary remedies BEFORE you need them since speed in administering them is critical.
This information is not intended to diagnose or prescribe any medical condition. Please seek the advice of a seasoned Lyme physician or a seasoned homeopath. I’ve heard of and read about some remarkable cases that were many years old come round with good homeopathic treatment.
This post is not about how to remove a tick. But to start off, here a concise 1-minute video on best practice for safe tick removal.
Here are 3 ways people are treating Lyme today:
1. Joette Calabrese’s Tick Bite Treatment Protocol (source)
For New Tick Bites Using Homeopathic Single Remedies:
Use this protocol for new tick bites and tick bites that have been discovered within a week.
DAY 1: Ledum palustre 200c dosed every 3 hours (Ledum 200 is the premier remedy for any kind of animal bite; also useful for snake bites.)
DAYS 2-8: Ledum palustre (200c) 2x per day for a week.
For a month: Ledum palustre (200c) 2x per week.
For second month: Ledum palustre (200c) 1x a week.
**These remedies are safe for children and pregnant women. Children and adults should follow the same dosing instructions.
For Early Lyme Using Homeopathic Single Remedies:
Use this protocol for tick bites that are older than a week and/or tick bites that are producing symptoms such as rash, fever, pain.
DAY 1: Ledum palustre 200c dosed every 3 hours
If the tick was discovered in just the last few days you can add: Arsenicum album 200ck (or aurum arsenicum 200) and Hypericum perforatum 30c 2x/d.
DAYS 2-8: Ledum palustre (200c) 2x per day.
For a month: Ledum palustre (200c) 2x per week.
For second month: Ledum palustre (200c) 1x a week.
In cases of older tick bites, use the first 3 remedies right alongside Borrelia 30C or Lyme Nosode 30C. The protocol is to take Borellia once per day for three days and then stop, for a total of three doses. This protocol states that this may need to be repeated every few months if the symptoms remain. (source) Once can also add Epstein-Barr drops because they may also have EBV and cytolmegalo virus as co-infections in their case.

3. Stephen Harrod Buhner’s Herbal Treatment Protocol
You can find the following text in this PDF on page 2. And you will find his full Lyme Guide here.
For Early Lyme:
—Japanese Knotweed Tincture ¼ – 1 tsp 3-6x daily (the latest science)
—Cat’s Claw Bark Tincture ¼-1/2 tsp 3x daily (the science; our intergative docs recommended cat’s claw years ago.)
This study states: “..7 natural product extracts at 1% were found to have good activity against the stationary phase B. burgdorferi culture compared to the control antibiotics doxycycline and cefuroxime. These active botanicals include Cryptolepis sanguinolenta, Juglans nigra (Black walnut), Polygonum cuspidatum (Japanese knotweed), Artemisia annua (Sweet wormwood), Uncaria tomentosa (Cat’s claw), Cistus incanus, and Chinese skullcap.”
This one product (Tick Immune Support by ZenMen) contains all of the listed herbs above and is compatible with Stephen Buhner’s herbal protocol.
Also Ghanaian Quinine shows favorable data. I haven’t found a source yet. Maybe this one?
Quick Lyme Facts:
–The CDC states that ~476,000 new cases of Lyme disease are diagnosed each year.
–Vitamin D levels are frequently low in Lyme disease patients.
–Testing misses more than 50% of active Lyme infections.
–Prophylactic treatment using 200 mg of Doxy is ineffective.
–A Lyme infection becomes chronic after 4 weeks of infection.
–Bulls-eye rashes occur in only 25% of Lyme cases.
–A rash indicates infection and should be treated appropriately!
–Ticks can transmit infection in less than 4 hours.
–Late stage Lyme infections are often misdiagnosed as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, MS, Arthritis, Lupus and other diseases.
–Every tick bite can transmit disease.

Personal note: We found out several in our family had chronic Lyme after becoming infected years before, but we are well today. We refused antibiotics (1.) b/c I was allergic to all of them and (2.) b/c I believe antibiotics drive the co-infections into ‘hiding’ or the co-infections can develop a tolerance to antibiotics. We also learned that biofilms are composed of metals, increasing resistance to antimicrobials. Read more about what we did and what we are doing now here. Read more on other vectors for Lyme here.

This is so timely! My son has had 2 ticks on him over past month. He was taking something but keeps getting stomach problems from it so he cant do a full dose. I just ordered ledum palestre and will follow your instructions for early lyme. He got them 4-6 weeks ago. Do you think we are still in window to do early lyme protocol? He had flu like symptoms 3-4 weeks ago.
Jacqueline
Simplycountitalljoy,
I would give all the guns you have… TRS, ledum pal, the Lyme nosode listed, and the herbal tincture (as tolerated). We used TRS to overcome our Lyme for 1 specific reason, and I briefly touch on it in this post:
https://deeprootsathome.com/history-of-chronic-pain-think-lyme-disease/
I learned it was the metals that hold biofilms together and which allow biofilms to be resistant to antimicrobials. When we started TRS we began to see a decrease in our Lyme symptoms for once and for all.
I would up his Vit D to 60,000 IU per day as per Dr. Mercola. Read this: https://www.ascent2health.com/blog/vitamin-d-and-lyme-disease
I hope that helps!
Praying,
Jacque

My little one had a tick on her last fall and we followed Joette’s protocol immediately. She has been doing great and no symptoms.
Jacqueline
Sahmpaw, THAT is SO good to hear! Praise God!
Thanks for your sharing that here..

We are getting ticks nearly every day here in WV. I had one a few weeks ago and panic pulled it off and left the head in 🙁 even though I know better. I was definitely feeling super bad/weird after that.
I’ve been using the ledum and a great lyme tincture from PurifyYourBody.com. I also kept feeling like I needed oregano oil, so I decided to take that too.
I spoke with a naturopath this week who told me that
c i s t u s i n c a n u s will help to make you less desirable to ticks. She said to drink the tea daily, that it is pleasant and mild and you can reuse the leaves three times. She then adds the used leaves to her dogs food! I cannot personally attest to the effectiveness of this yet, but it is worth trying!
Here is a link for a super informative article on Dogs Naturally Magazine by Stephen Buhner:

I recommend reading it even if you don’t have a dog.
Thanks always for the work you do!

I would love some info on Alpha-Gal. In Missouri, even with citronella all over her shoes and lower pants, my daughter pulled 27 ticks off of her, in ten minutes, when she went to pick mulberries. After those ten minutes, she was DONE. She already has Alpha-Gal, as does her sister. That’s two of my three kids! Nobody had even heard of it a year ago, in our family, and now 2/3 of my kids have it. One of the girls got a case of celiac disease along with it, which I’ve read happens with some sufferers. So she can’t have gluten or dairy, or mammal meats. Which means no gelatin (gummy candy or jello) and they sometimes react to sugar, as it’s filtered through mammal bones. No stearates, which is in almost every medicine and supplement pill. It’s crazy now, trying to feed my kids. PLEASE ADDRESS ALPHA-GAL!
And thank you for what you do.
Jacqueline
Caroline, I need to do more research before I write on that! Thanks for the question, though, and getting it on my radar!
Praying for you and your daughter.
Sending peace,
Jacque

My son had a tick bite a couple of days ago and the area is swollen. I took him to see the family doctor and of course she prescribed antibiotics. He had this happen to him once before and they said it was cellulitis. This time she didn’t say it was but wanted to treat him for Lymes and cellulitis just in case. Anyway, after reading the pamphlet that comes with the prescription I just don’t feel comfortable giving that to him. My daughter has a natural antibiotic she had made several weeks ago. It contains ACV, garlic, oregano and rosemary. Is there something that you’d recommend for natural antibiotic or a way to treat cellulitis?
Jacqueline
Hi, Gabrielle,
Yes, start him on nanosilver as per the second half of this post (and you are wise and right to not go the antibiotic route). Silver is the BEST natural antibiotic: https://deeprootsathome.com/can-antibiotics-make-us-aggressive-study-says-yes-and-solution/
Then once taking silver, there is a Lyme homeopathic nosode that many are going to for these early situations and it is powerful, effective and totally gentle and safe. In this post you are commenting to, look for the Lyme nosode link, get and start that as directed and finish the bottle. If any symptoms remain you can safely start and finish a second bottle. You will most likely quickly see the cellulitis go down and internally have confidence that you have quashed a full blown Lyme co-infection.
Spray the site of the bite topically with silver as well.. The combination of nanosilver internally and topically will do the job when followed by the Lyme nosode. With no disruption to the gut microbiome and preserving his immune system to help fight. I’m glad you are getting on this early!
Praying for your son,
Jacque
Gabrielle
Thank you SO much!!!
Jacqueline
My pleasure, Gabrielle!
