A very spry, elderly friend gave me this unusual recipe. She told me it’s an authentic Mexican medicine recipe from her childhood, and that her family made it (sans a Vitamix) by grinding it by hand. I made it the next day (with my Vitamix) because I was so intrigued, and we’ve been enjoying it ever since!
It’s both addictive —in a good away—and seriously fabulous for the immune system!
Mexican medicine is bubbly and beautiful, easy to make, and 1 recipe lasts a long time at just 1 TBSP a day per person.
Vitamin C is an essential vitamin, meaning your body can’t produce it, yet it’s known to give magnificent health benefits. It’s naturally occurring in many fruits and vegetables, that’s why it’s commonly advised to get your vitamin C intake from foods daily and forego the supplements.
Whooping cough or an emergency need like covid prevention would be just 2 instances when high dose Vitamin C supplementation would be in order.
The Broad Health Benefits of Vitamin C
• Increases your blood antioxidant levels by 30%. Helps the body fight inflammation which reduces risk of chronic disease. [1]
• Helps lower blood pressure.
• Nine studies (combined 293,172 participants) found 10 years later, people who took at least 700 mg. of Vitamin C daily had a 25% lower risk of heart disease than those who did not.
• A huge 20 year study found people who took a vitamin C supplement had a 44% lower gout risk and reduced blood uric acid levels.
• Just 100 mg of vitamin C improves iron absorption up to 67%. Vitamin C helps control anemia in children.
• Boosts immunity: Shortens wound healing time, increases white blood cells and T-cells, heals those with pneumonia and tuberculosis faster.
• Protects your memory and thinking as you age (2nd source) (3rd source)
Mexican medicine offers a fabulous array of other vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients in every ingredient making this a HIGH VITAMIN whole food.
Beside the lemons, onion, and raw garlic, the raw honey alone offers (source):
• help with weight loss and may cause an increase in insulin, an important hormone for controlling blood sugar
• anticancer and antioxidant properties
• increased energy
• cough relief
• antibacterial and antifungal properties
• increased speed in wound healing
Juanita’s High Potency Vitamin C Mexican Medicine Recipe
1 Recipe = 2 quart jars, each just over 3/4 full
• 10-12 organic lemons, peeled of their rind (or limes, if you prefer)
• 1 organic medium to large whole head of garlic, each clove peeled (you will not be able to taste it!)
• 1 large red, sweet onion (you will not be able to taste it!)
• 3 mandarin oranges, deseeded, for a boost of brilliant color and mellowing effect
• 1 – 1 ¼ cup raw local honey or manuka honey
• 2 – 2 ½ tsp. ground cinnamon, preferably organic
• 1 heaping teaspoon of Himalayan pink salt (for a wide range of trace minerals)
Note: instead of having garlic or onion breath, we now know lemons and cinnamon deodorize those smells and are some of the best breath fresheners!
Directions On How to Store It & Take it
Put all ingredients into your Vita mix tub (in batches if needed), cover, and blend into a thick slurry.
Pour onto the glass quart jars. Cap and refrigerate. Mexican medicine will store for 3 months, but the vitamin content will fall if kept that long.
And you can FREEZE it (with 1 1/2″ head space for expansion) for 6-9 months.
Take it DAILY for a boost to your immune system, for prevention when exposed to illness, and for overall well-being.
Again, take 1 TBSP a day or divide by taking a heaping tsp both AM and PM.
So this is a great way to consume your raw garlic! Just about as good as my fermented garlic and honey recipe!

Hi Jacqueline…I realize this post wasn’t specifically on zinc..but on other immunity supporting remedy…What are your thoughts/research on zinc? Perhaps you have already done a post on zinc?
I’ve heard that adults should be taking it along with children and wash it down with ruby red grapefruit juice..something about the combination helps our bodies absorb it better. I will not post the specific place that is recommending it. If you would like the site, let me know, just didn’t think I should post it in the comments.
Is zinc something we should be taking each day for adults and 3x a week for children? Thank you for your time and willingness to share your knowledge with others.
Jacqueline
Hi, Lorinda!
Yes, zinc is vital for brain development in our children and all through life! It is the intelligence mineral! I wrote about it in 2 posts:
https://deeprootsathome.com/4-natural-science-backed-ways-to-be-prepared-for-coronavirus-pandemic/ (this one has dosages)
https://deeprootsathome.com/why-soy-infant-formula-is-so-harmful-to-babies/ (special section on zinc)
I hope that helps! And I’d love to investigate more on the use of red grapefruit juice to help assimilate!
God bless you!

Dear Jackie,
That is exactly the reason why
I do not want the vaccine;
because it is made from
cells from aborted babies.
And that is not right at all!!!
I connected with you on
Parler. 🙂 I am new to
Parler too and do not
know how to use it very
well either. I am hoping
I can eventually do
messaging on there.
I went on Parler to try
to support Americans
and pray for and with
them. I am a Canadian.
My name on there is-

What would a person use
instead of the vitamin C
recipe if they cannot
have citrus because of
acid reflux?
I read in one of your e-mails
just to pass something on
that you said, with someone
I trust. But I can’t remember
what the subject was. I just
passed on your pie recipe
and the vitamin C recipe.
Could you please refresh my
memory?
Thank-you and God bless you!!!
Sincerely,
Nancy
Jacqueline
Hi, Nancy! I apologize for the long delay in answering you! My main computer was hacked last Friday and so I am waayyyy behind. I seldom get to Parler, so forgive me. Thank you for your support! I am indeed grateful. We are still unburying from the damage, so I may not be able to respond as normal.
AS for the vitamin C component of the recipe, I would look to kiwis as a substitution bc kiwis are VERY high in C! I hope that helps 😀
Blessings, Jacqueline

Dear Jacqueline
Oh, I did not want my Parler

forgot to mention that.
(sheepish face here)
God bless your computer

I am praying for you!

P.S. What is the check box that I check off
right under my e-mail? No worries. Get
back to me when you have the time.
Actually, I am just thinking it may be
a check box to agree of the handling of
my information. (I had thought it was
for my post to be private:) That shows
how much I know about doing all this
stuff!!! Hee hee! I thought it meant
that my post would be private. Go

Nancy, I just removed the Parler address from your last comment so you are safe! Oh, yes, dear one! The Lord does delight in us and we are immensely blessed now and in eternity! Jacqueline
Nancy
Thank-you Jacqueline!
And I delight in Jesus!

Hi there Jacqueline,
I just made this delicious Mexican medicine recipe, & I’m not sure I can just restrict it to 1 tbsp/day! I find it to be pretty yummy, so I’m thinking I may consider it as salad dressing!
My question is, & maybe I missed it, but do you happen to know how much Vitamin C is provided in the recommended tbsp/day? I am thinking of making this recipe as part of a gift basket for a friend, & maybe for the holidays as well! The gift of health is always welcome, right?*!
I, also, am retired but from work as a massage therapist & Chiropractic technician. I am so pleased to have found your site. It is so refreshing to find someone offering doable, immune boosting, alternative health options.
Thank you for all that you do. I am grateful that God impressed upon you to compile this body of knowledge for others. Please know you are appreciated.
Blessings from your sister in Christ,
Christine
Jacqueline
Hi, Angela,
I wish I could have someone do an assay of the numbers for me, but I haven’t taken the time and am just guessing it is a nice bioavailable way to get more C!
If I were to make a wild guess, I would say 3-400 mg per heaping teaspoon. We do know with God-given food grown in good microbially rich soil (which many no longer are), that our bodies can recycle vit C in some cases, as it is more bioavailable.
Thank you for your encouragement. I love what I do, and the Lord has given me a sweet spot to minister to others.
Blessings,
Jacqueline

Hi Jackie,
First I wanted you to know that I refer all my friends to your blog. You are almost the only one I trust.
I have all the ingredients for the Mexican medicine except for local honey. I planned to go out to get that but my husband wants me to use Costco’s “Southeast Raw Unfiltered Honey”. Basically, he doesn’t want me to drive 15 miles to get the local honey.
So, I thought I would get your thoughts on that.
Blessings,

Please keep my email address private.
In the Juanita’s Mexican recipe you mention that the lemons need to be peeled, but you say the oranges are to be deseeded. Do the oranges also get peeled or do you leave the skins on? Thank you for your reply and for all you do!
Jacqueline
Hi, Connie,
Yes, we peel both the citrus, but the lemon (or even any orange) seeds would make it very bitter. I will amend that in the post.
Thank you. And no one can see the email addresses but me and they are never used for any reason unless someone wants to communicate.
Sending peace,
Jacqueline

I just made it and realized I put in twice the amount of Himalayan salt. It certainly is a bit saltier but not off putting. Also, mine is more liquidy than a slurry. Hmmm…
Jackie, what are your thoughts? Should I make maybe a ½ recipe to even out the salt? And what about the consistency?
Jacqueline
Hi, Jill,
It depends on how much time you have. You can always add to it and it will be less salty of make a go of it the way it is.
I am not sure about what to say about the consistency. Sometimes it depends on the water content of the batch of fruit you used. My was a bit soupy, too.
It won’t hurt the medicinal value of the finished product, though.
Blessings,
Jacque
