As long as I can remember, healthy supplements have been scorned by the Pharma industry. Why?
Big Pharma’s focus is “treating symptoms”, while high quality supplements companies have always focused on “preventive care”. They’re polar opposites.
By purchasing health and wellness products, consumers aim to strengthen the body’s terrain and thus avoid disease (without masks).
The “pandemic” has further strengthened this mindset. Pharma simply can no longer ignore the demand for quality vitamins, minerals, herbs, immunity boosters, and targeted nutraceuticals. Now, they want a piece of that pie.

Suffice it to say, mega-corporations are increasingly expanding into the supplement space because the supplement market is enormous and continues to grow. In 2021, the US supplement market was worth $48.4 billion, and expanding at a rate of 8.9% annually. Where there’s money to be made, big players will want to cash in.
Doug of Off Grid with Doug and Stacy presents good evidence (old films, documents) of the very long-standing plans to limit our access to good things. 15 minutes. (I can’t vouch for everything he says here, but the timeline explaining why we are where we are now is pretty interesting). Please watch to the end.

Diluting Quality Supplements
The quality of ingredients is the first marker of a good supplement. Poor quality supplements do not provide the right forms of bioavailable vitamins.
• They provide vitamin E as synthetic dl-alpha tocopherol acetate instead of naturally-derived mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols.
• They can contain other ingredients like additives and fillers that we want to avoid.
• Not only are the ingredients of lower quality, they are less potent.
Pfizer’s Centrum Silver multivitamin, for example, provides only 60 mg of vitamin C (instead of 500 mg), 3 mg of vitamin B6 (instead of 30+ mg) , 50 mg of magnesium (instead of 400), and only 19 mcg of selenium (instead of 200mcg). Higher quality supplement brands sell products with necessary nutrient levels.
Companies investing in the supplement space are almost universally known for their products in other industries. Bayer is a pharmaceutical and biotech company—you may remember that they acquired Monsanto, the maker of glyphosate. Nestle is a food company known for it’s chocolate. Proctor & Gamble owns brands like Tide, Downy, Charmin, Head & Shoulders, Crest, and many, many more.
Nestle bought Pure Encapsulations and Douglas Foods, along with Garden of Life, Vital Proteins, Nuun, Wobenzym, Persona Nutrition, Genestra, Orthica, Minami, AOV, Klean Athlete and Bountiful. Bountiful itself owns Solgar, Osteo Bi-Flex, Puritan’s Pride, Ester-C and Sundown, which are now all under Nestle’s control. Nuun, a vitamin and hydration company, uses inferior forms of vitamins (folic acid and magnesium oxide) in their products.
Otsuka, a pharmaceutical company, now owns SmartyPants Vitamins and Innate Therapeutics. SmartyPants specializes in gummies that include 7 grams of added sugar per serving.
Schwabe now owns Integrative Therapeutics, Nature’s Way, and Enzymatic Therapy.
Unilever owns Onnit, OLLY, Equilibra and Liquid I.V., and MegaFood. OLLY produces gummies that contain added sugar and addictive additives like natural flavors.
Note: I Jacqueline have STOPPED purchasing MegaFoods products because almost all now have added ‘autolyzed yeast extract’, which ALWAYS acts as an MSG-forming ingredient! Thankfully, I caught that. I called corporate headquarters and asked why on earth!? Their response was that “the formula changed in all their products when they were bought out”! Disgusting, because we loved the product before this harmful change-up!)
Wall Street also got in on the action, with private equity groups purchasing brands like Nutraceutical and Metagenics.
Several of the largest and highest quality brands that have not been purchased have confirmed that larger companies have made several unsuccessful attempts to purchase them.
What Does This Mean For Future Access to High Quality Supplements?
Senator Dick Durbin’s (D-IL) efforts to require mandatory product listing for dietary supplements brings us closer to what the European Union is doing to restrict supplement dosages and formulas. The intention of EU law is to implement “harmonized” limits on maximum levels of vitamins and minerals in supplements. The infrastructure for doing the same thing is already in place in the US.
Mega-corporations doing business across the world welcome harmonized levels of supplements, so they can sell their products on the world market without having to change formulations or labels. Higher-end products would be eliminated because they wouldn’t meet the “harmonized” nutrient levels, and all that would be left are the most basic, cookie-cutter products that don’t support patient needs but make the most money —like the supplements you see at CVS, or Walgreen’s, etc.
Either way, consumers lose. And we need to be better label readers!
Bottom line: Durbin’s mandatory product listing legislation would add regulations to supplements that would increase prices for consumers and decrease available options, making it easy for the FDA to eliminate supplements that compete with the drug companies that provide significant funding for the Agency. If you haven’t already, you can take action here.

Hello! Thank you for this. Very valuable information and it makes sense. Of course corporations would take advantage.
Do you have a list of companies that are currently safe? Or a guide on how to find them?
Thank you for all you do! I really enjoy your blog and the content you’re digging into. It’s helpful in so many ways.
Jacqueline
Elisabeth, I’m sorry. I don’t at this time. I think a post like that would be needing constant updating as things change.. mergers are happening at an increasing rate now.
We just have to dig and research each one individually it seems. I do have this post, but sad to say, I am sure some of those recommendations fall in the category of having been bought out!
More and more, we just need to trust God to direct us and give us Holy Spirit instincts to just know when something is not right.
Sending peace,
Jacque
