Can We Halt 8 Serious Diseases Linked to Epstein-Barr Virus?
This electron microscopic image of two Epstein Barr Virus virions (viral particles) shows round capsids—protein-encased genetic material—loosely surrounded by the membrane envelope. Credit: PloS Biology (2005), DOI: 10.1371/journal.pbio.0030430.g001

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a strikingly common virus. EBV is one 9 known human herpesvirus types and nearly 95% of adults worldwide carry it. People mainly acquire the virus via saliva or body fluids. Acquiring it from blood transfusion, or organ transplantation is also possible. Once infected, the virus remains in people for their entire lives, yet in most people, EBV never causes any symptoms. (source)

Incidentally, EBV is the most common virus causing mononucleosis, and is also usually part of the Lyme co-infection complex (as I will discuss below). The virus was discovered it in 1964 and named after Drs. Epstein and Barr. (source)

One of our dearest friends, a big strong guy, came home from a trip and called me saying he had a fever, terrible body aches and was super fatigued. He also had 2 very swollen, tender and inflamed areas (a lymph node on the neck and a very painful swollen knee), both on the same side of his body. He asked what he should do.

(Below, I will tell you what I recommended and then took to him later that day. About 48 hours later, he broke out in the classic “mono” rash on his back, which confirmed my suspicion that it was Epstein-Barr related.)

An eye-opening study conducted in 2018 by scientists at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital reported that the Epstein-Barr virus increases the risks for some people of developing 7 other major diseases later in their lives. Those diseases are:

• systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

• multiple sclerosis (MS)

• rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

• juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)

• inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

• celiac disease

• type 1 diabetes

• fibromyalgia was added to the list in 2019

• myalgic encephalitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) was added in 2020

Combined, these 9 diseases affect in the multiple millions of people in the U.S.

Study results were published in the journal Nature Genetics. The project was led by John Harley, MD, PhD; Leah Kottyan, PhD; and Matthew Weirauch, PhD, all working at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

“Using genomic methods that were not available 10 years ago, it appears that a protein produced by the Epstein-Barr virus interacts with human DNA in the places where the genetic risk of disease is increased,” said Dr. Harley, who has devoted much of his career to studying lupus in children. “And not just for lupus, but all these other diseases, too.” His work includes showing that children with lupus almost always are infected with EBV.

Overall, the study sheds new light on how environmental factors, such as viral or bacterial infections, poor diet, toxins or other hazardous exposures, can interact with the human genetic blueprint and have disease-influencing consequences.

How Epstein-Barr (EBV) hijacks our immune system

When viral or bacterial infections strike, our bodies respond by commanding B cells within our immune systems to crank out antibodies to battle the invaders. However, when EBV infections occur, something unusual happens.

The Epstein-Barr virus invades the B cells themselves, re-programs them, and takes over control of their functions. EBV-infected human cells seem to “switch on” higher risk genes for autoimmunity.

The researchers are excited because this breakthrough opens new lines of study that could accelerate efforts to find new (usually very pricey) pharmaceuticals for these 9 distinct diseases. Big Pharma works that way.

But we may not need to wait the many years until a breakthrough is developed into an expensive drug.

What if you already had a specific natural medicine protocol in your medicine cabinet and could prevent a downward spiral of symptoms at the first sight of EBV (which are potentially serious and many)? This would look similar to using antiviral elderberry at the first sign of a cold or flu.

We have many God-given, proven natural remedies.

Protocol for EBV, CMV, Mononucleosis and more

I took several products (seen below) to our very sick friend (above), with the encouragement to finish the bottles according to the printed directions. Likewise, if you’ve had a serious case of mono or have been diagnosed with EBV, these might be something to consider to build future resistance to the virus.

Professional Formula’s Epstein Barr Drops in homeopathic potency directly addresses EBV (and the usual co-infections cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Mononucleosis). Read the amazing reviews! The directions are to place drops under the tongue 30 minutes before or after meals. Adults and children 12 and over: Take 10 drops up to 3 times/ day for up to 6 weeks. For immediate onset of symptoms, take 10-15 drops every 15 minutes for up to 3 hours. For less severe symptoms take 10-15 drops hourly for up to 8 hours.

I also took him the Professional Formula’s Herpetic nosode because EBV is in the herpesvirus family. It contains homeopathic herpes in very broad potencies (see the ingredient list). Again, read the amazing reviews! The directions are to place drops under the tongue 30 minutes before or after meals. Adults and children 12 and over: Take 10 drops up to 3 times/ day for up to 6 weeks. For aid with future resistance and recovery, take 10-15 drops once weekly or monthly.

Can We Halt 9 Serious Diseases Linked to Epstein-Barr Virus?

Because he started taking these almost immediately, he responded exactly as I would expect – quickly. Both formulas prevented a downward spiral of symptoms, and I encouraged him to use these products several times a year to continue to cause resistance to the virus.

They are OTC, and again, I do encourage you to read the review of both.

Dr. Berg did a video in response to the findings of the EBV study, and he has some other really good supplement supports to address the virus, as well.

4 minutes.

He lists adrenal support (plus lower stress, walking/exercise and good sleep), daily magnesium, selenium, boron, and monolaurin.

A final personal story: When some of my family was diagnosed with chronic Epstein-Barr back in our Lyme days, our naturopath treated us with homeopathics including the same homeopathics I took our friend above, and they were very effective for us as well.

Later, I also learned heavy metals in the body made viral infections worse. To aid in our recovery, a nurse friend told me about TRS, an oral spray product that safely chelates ~80,000 known environmental toxins and heavy metals. There’s a lot of scientific evidence that heavy metals FEED viruses, bacteria, and fungi (studies here, here, here, here, and here). They thrive in a heavy metal rich environment. Once metals and toxins are lowered, our immune systems begin to rebound back towards homeostasis as they were designed to do.

Here are a few unsolicited anecdotal stories of what heavy metals detox Advanced TRS can do for EBV, Lyme and diseases stemming from EBV:

I was diagnosed with this virus. at a high level in the late 1980s. At that time not much was known about it. When I had asked the doctor to test me for it, he had made some rude remarks about me being a hypochondriac, but when on and ordered the test. He had seem surprised when he got the results back and they were very high but he had told me that the medical field really did not know much about what the significance of high levels of that virus meant.
I went to the local medical school library and looked it up in Index Medicus, and Xeroxed copies of the articles to read when I got home. The main thing they said about it, at that time, was that it was almost always found in people with chronic nasal infections and in people with mouth and sinus cancers. Two or three years later I had found out that I had a chronic staph infection in my sinuses which took two surgeries to remove all the infected tissue and bones. I had also found out that the only cancers that my family had had had been both my aunt and her son, my cousin, died of mouth and throat cancer.
Before I was diagnosed with the staph infection, which after my first surgery. the doctor had told me I had had for at least 20 years, the ENT clinic I had been using for years kept telling me I had a viral infection, not a bacterial infection. I had gotten to where I had a constant low grade fever and swollen lymph nodes in my neck, and my throat was constantly red and irritated, which we discovered after the surgery was due to my sinuses spewing the staph down my throat constantly. Due to a mutation, my sinuses could not drain properly. I had gotten to where I was exhausted all the time, and it was only that the clinic I had been using had gotten a new, young doctor in who asked me if he could do an endoscopic exam. As soon as he did it, and saw the sinuses, he ordered a CT scan, which was when they realized, for the first time, how extensive the infection had become.
My health improved after the first surgery but was still not great and I went back and ended up needing another surgery to remove more infected bone and tissue, after which I started gaining some of the weight I had lost, and quit being so exhausted all the time.
I took a lot of abuse from doctors, specially at the VA, where one resident yelled at me as I left his office, that I needed to get a life and quit spending so much time at the doctor’s offices. I had other doctors accuse me of being a crock. I honestly think that if I had not seen that one young doctor, who had just finished his residency, and made an effort to find out what was wrong, I probably would have been dead a couple decades ago.
I have not ever been tested for that virus since the surgeries, but don’t think I have any of the disorders you mentioned in this article. I had had several doctors suggest some of those disorders, but everything seemed to clear up once I had had the second surgery, so I just left well enough alone. The first surgery was in 1990 or 91, and the second in 1992.

Oh, Gena, I continue to think it’s only the Lord God who has kept you alive for a great purpose. You have gone through so much.
I am thankful you are doing so much better.
You can still use the 2 homeopathics to MAKE SURE the EBV is totally gone or at least so weakened that it won’t ever be a big factor causing future illness.
      Sending love to you,
      Jacque

    Hi Jacqueline,
Are both nosodes ok to take at the same time? If so do we need to space them ( like one nosode before meals and another nosode after?)
Also, have there been any reported aggravations? My son is extremely sensitive and aggravates initially to remedies. Should I dilute in this case? Thanks for your help.

      Hi, Dani,
Yes, if there is a tendency for aggravation (herx, die off), you can use one drops one day and the other drops the next. Switch them up. Otherwise, you can use them the same day and at the same time, no problem. You could also start slow like once every week – just keep consistent and continue to the goal of killing the offenders. Just keep them away from meals, toothpaste, mint, etc. or they will be made ineffective.
You can support this protocol by keeping him well hydrated, getting good sleep with the clock of dusk and sunrise, up his Vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, (what Dr. Berg said), and keep his immune system primed based on his age: https://deeprootsathome.com/child-teen-dosages-9-key-nutrients-to-prime-their-immune-systems/

Supporting and building patients’ immune systems during any serious disease is vital to actually conquering it.
      I hope this helps,
      Jacqueline
