Please, don’t let this make you rush out and get the shingles vaccine! Read to the end first!
Prior to the 1990s, natural chickenpox was a nearly universal childhood experience and played out as a mild disease that conferred reliable long-term immunity.
In 1995, without any compelling medical reason to do so, the CDC added the chickenpox vaccine to the childhood vaccine schedule for 12-15-month-olds. In 2006, acknowledging the problem of waning vaccine effectiveness, they decided that 4-6-year-old children needed to get a second (booster) shot. (source)
Immunology experts believe that because adults are no longer caring for (and exposed to) children who have the Chicken Pox (since most children are being vaccinated against it), adults are not getting a natural immunity ‘boost’ against the Varicella (or Herpes) Zoster virus.
In fact, this 2002 study confirmed that exposure to natural chickenpox in adults living with children “was highly protective against shingles.”
Before and after introduction of the vaccine, researchers also warned of the vaccine’s potential to shift the average age of chickenpox infection upward—a problematic scenario since chickenpox is more severe in adults. (source)
Those authors cautioned that mass chickenpox vaccination was likely to cause a shingles epidemic. They also predicted that shingles would affect “more than 50% of those aged 10-44 years at introduction of vaccination.”
Big Tip: let your children (and grandchildren) get natural chicken pox and care for them to get your “booster” if you had them as a child! If you have not, I will discuss prevention in a minute.

In the 50s, my mom took us children to a “chicken pox party” at the Katt’s house when we were ages 4 through 10! Everyone we knew at school had done it, and there was a wonderful natural immunity to all ages in the community! It was unheard of for older people to get shingles.
Contracting chicken pox naturally as a child is the most opportune time to lay the foundations of robust health and immunity.
Like my Mom, I took our children to a chicken pox party. I was already 44 and that little exposure ‘boosted’ my natural immunity — but that was ~26 years ago.
Now nearing 70, my natural immunity had waned… And I was with a friend who had just gotten her shingles shot… 🙁
How Do We Get Shingles?
ONE WAY: From someone shedding a recent Zostavax (shingles) vaccine.
Zostavax is a LIVE virus and is able to shed to other unsuspecting persons!
SECOND WAY: Stress depresses our immune system and is a big risk factor for shingles!
THIRD WAY: Waning immunity. The problem with eradicating chicken pox through unnatural means is no one gets natural immunity from re-exposure, so we end up getting shingles in later years.
I have corresponded with many dozens of recent shingles sufferers, many with repeated cases, so no doubt, we are in a shingles epidemic.
Don’t Be UN-Prepared Like I Was!
Our naturopath always uses homeopathics, but her ‘expedited’ shipment didn’t arrive until day 5 due to a shipping delay!
The shingles came on SO fast and terrible, I became fearful and started anti-viral Valtrex late on day 3. The fast results I was promised instead left me nauseous for days and the eruptions on my face got vastly worse. I know now that the antiviral BLOCKED the efficacy of the homeopathics.

Be Prepared with this Homeopathic Remedy for Shingles
I learned a hard lesson on preparedness. Too late for me, but hopefully not for others reading this.
Now I keep this wonderfully effective, inexpensive shingles nosode remedy on hand (essentially what my naturopath prescribed)! No prescription needed.
There are 2 effective ways to use it:
- Acute care: Have the shingles nosode remedy on hand and treat immediately (read the reviews and the ingredients – impressive!)
- Preventative: Use the shingles nosode as a natural shingles preventative (read the reviews!)
Shingles Scar Prevention & Nerve Pain
Topical skin healing: alternate Skin Defense Spray and Calendula Cream. Also apply Vitamin D cream topically 3x/d.
Lastly, keep on hand several vials of homeopathic remedy hypericum 200C for nerve pain. Take 3 pellets every hour when there’s pain; take 2-3x/d when manageable, and stop when relieved. Do not handle the pellets with your hands. Tap them into the cap and pop them into your mouth. No food 15 minutes before or 15 minutes afterward.
Supports: I upped my regular detox with TRS usage to 10-15 sprays 2x/d along with Vit C, zinc, turmeric, and cod liver oil to calm my brain. I didn’t need to take L-Lysine because it’s already in the shingles nosode.
