There are a few natural whole food supplement companies that were always thought to be “The Best”- – – but not anymore. Here are a few examples of what has sadly happened to them:
• Garden of Life says they’re committed to natural, organic ingredients. But they were bought out by Nestle, the world’s largest food and beverage company. The whole story behind Nestle is criminal. Now I don’t trust anything in the Nestle/Garden of Life product line, because of their crooked history. “Nestle is a company that is a known global bully for their laundry list of crimes against humanity and deception on the quality of their products.” (read more here)
• MegaFoods used to be my personal favorite. THEN I noticed they added (under “other ingredients”) a big no-no for people who avoid neurotoxins: autolyzed yeast extract. (Autolyzed yeast extract is always a neurotoxic MSG-forming compound). MegaFood is now owned by Big 14 vitamin manufacturer, Pharmavite/Otsuka. When I called the home office to ask about the offending autolyzed yeast extract, a supervisor told me they added it immediately after the buyout and that sales had dropped off after numerous complaints.
• New Chapter sold out to Proctor & Gamble.
• Country Life sold out to Kikkoman.
• Centrum and Emergen-C sold out to PFIZER!
• Swanson sold out to global equity firm Swander Pace Capital in 2016.
And I could go on and on…
Whole Food vs. Synthetic Supplements: What’s the Real Difference?
Whole food supplements are exactly what they sound like—nutrients derived directly from real, natural foods. They’re made by concentrating and dehydrating whole fruits, vegetables, herbs, sea vegetables and other plant-based sources to retain their full spectrum of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and phytonutrients. Unlike synthetic supplements that isolate individual nutrients, whole food supplements keep these nutrients in their natural, complex form (usually through freeze-drying).
Your body recognizes and absorbs whole food more efficiently because they are created with all the natural cofactors—like fiber, enzymes, and antioxidants—that help with digestion and nutrient uptake.
Synthetic supplements, on the other hand, are man-made in a processing plant. They’re designed to mimic the chemical structure of natural vitamins and minerals. Instead, they’re derived through chemical reactions using ingredients like petroleum derivatives, coal tar, or other industrial compounds.
Synthetic supplements lack the natural cofactors found in the WHOLE food. While the nutrient may look the same under a microscope, your body has a harder time recognizing and absorbing the nutrients, meaning your body may only absorb a fraction of what’s in the pill. Synthetic vitamins can also cause imbalances because they don’t work in harmony with the other nutrients your body needs.
13 Better Food Based Companies
Naturelo is one of the better whole food supplement companies which combines powerful, natural ingredients to enhance its bioactive benefits. It includes premium plant-based vitamins and minerals such:
• Iodine from hand-harvested kelp (People who eat seaweed seldom have mineral deficiencies. The seaweed Kelp naturally contains iodine, along with over 90 other essential minerals which your body uses properly.)
• Vitamin D3 from wild-harvested lichen, Vitamin E from sunflower
• Calcium and Magnesium from marine algae
• Vitamin K2 as MK-7, and chelated minerals like Zinc and Selenium, for better absorption and bioavailability
Its bioactive ingredients include activated B vitamins like B6 from P-5-P, MTHFR-friendly B12 (from methylcobalamin) and Active L-5-Methylfolate (folate, not typical folic acid).
What a breath of fresh air to find a multi-vitamin from real food sources. This is what the label should look like:

And Pure Synergy is another one. It isn’t classified as a multivitamin, but I think it’s even better. It contains all the nutrients (including Kelp) from REAL FOOD in God-given balanced amounts.
This is what I have chosen for my husband and myself. This very powerful blend is organic certified by Oregon Tilth (which in my opinion as organic farmers ourselves, is one of the best certifiers), plastic-free (in glass) dairy-free, gluten-free, tested for heavy metals, microbes, and gluten. It is functional nutrition that is made from fermented whole foods, which make them easier to digest and healing to our stomach.
(With either one of these supplements, I anticipate (certainly not speaking for everyone) I may be able to stop my expensive MTHFR methylated-B complex that I wrote about here. With Pure Synergy Superfood, I may also be able to stop my digestive enzyme, iodine, green powder, mushroom powder, and possibly more.)

By adding Kelp and other complete organic whole foods (nothing synthetic) into your daily diet (delivering synergistic vitamins, minerals, enzymes, co-factors and phytonutrients), you can expect:
• Increased energy, reduced fatigue, balanced metabolism and better brain processing because the body knows what to do with properly grown, God-given food. Man-made junk confuses it.
• Better digestion, enhanced nutrient absorption, improved immune function
• Healthier skin, hair, bones, nails and more
What About the Companies?
Remember this post? Look Who’s Controlling Our Natural Supplements? It reveals that almost ALL the companies that we used to totally trust are now bought up by giant conglomerations like Pfizer, Clorox, P&G, Nestle, Bayer. etc. etc.
At last check, NATURELO® is owned by Arcadia Consumer Healthcare, Inc., NOT one of the Big 14 Mega-Corps listed below.
And, at last check, Pure Synergy is still independently owned.

“Cleaner” Whole Food Supplement Companies
Some other safer, fully-natural companies I now order from (until they get swallowed up by the greedy mega-corps) are:
• Pure Synergy (I am very excited about this company. Check out their prenatal, PureNatal)
• Paleo Valley – unique, clean, whole food supplements
• Standard Process – Dr. Royal Lee recognized nutritional deficiencies caused by processed foods and industrial food production back in 1923. They pioneered innovation in whole food nutrition using organic and regenerative farming practices.
• Professional Formulas – founded in 1984, Professional Formulas delivers high-quality, practitioner-grade supplements designed to address a wide range of health needs. (I wrote, down near the end of these posts, about their products and how to use them for Shingles, Epstein-Barr Virus and Lyme.) We use these regularly alongside TRS.
• Dr. Christopher’s Formula’s – a wonderful array of solid, clean formula’s developed by Dr. John R. Christopher himself many years ago! I love his School of Natural Healing book.
• NutraMedix – U.S. made tinctures with many different product categories.
• Purely Beneficial – no fillers, no artificial ingredients, no harmful preservatives. I love their Resveratrol 1450.
• Microbiome Labs – The best you can buy for adults. Completely clean, cutting-edge spore-based probiotic nutritional supplements effectively recondition the adult gut. Survive body heat and stomach acid. MegaSporeBiotic and MegaMucosa fully healed my gut.
• Solaray – not perfect, and has been bought out, but has far fewer additives, has very good herbs and blends like these) to offer a MUCH higher quality product than, say, popular NOW brand
• Ancient Nutrition – Organic Alkalizing Super Greens, Collagen Peptides, very complete whole foods, including mushrooms and probiotics, often fermented, for different needs, etc.
• Traditional Medicinals – Pharmacopeial grade medicinal herbs formulated by professional herbalists for high-quality, tested, effective teas. (See other tea brands that test free from pesticides here).
• Paradise Herbs – organic & wild-crafted ingredients, probiotics, mushrooms and enzymes
I’m sure there are a few more… Do you know of other ‘clean’ whole food companies I can add here?
