There are a few natural whole food supplement companies that were always thought to be “The Best”- – – but not anymore. Here are a few examples of what has sadly happened to them:
• Garden of Life says they’re committed to natural, organic ingredients. But they were bought out by Nestle, the world’s largest food and beverage company. The whole story behind Nestle is criminal. Now I don’t trust anything in the Nestle/Garden of Life product line, because of their crooked history. “Nestle is a company that is a known global bully for their laundry list of crimes against humanity and deception on the quality of their products.” (read more here)
• MegaFoods used to be my personal favorite. THEN I noticed they added (under “other ingredients”) a big no-no for people who avoid neurotoxins: autolyzed yeast extract. (Autolyzed yeast extract is always a neurotoxic MSG-forming compound). MegaFood is now owned by Big 14 vitamin manufacturer, Pharmavite/Otsuka. When I called the home office to ask about the offending autolyzed yeast extract, a supervisor told me they added it immediately after the buyout and that sales had dropped off after numerous complaints.
• New Chapter sold out to Proctor & Gamble.
• Country Life sold out to Kikkoman.
• Centrum and Emergen-C sold out to PFIZER!
• Swanson sold out to global equity firm Swander Pace Capital in 2016.
And I could go on and on…
Whole Food vs. Synthetic Supplements: What’s the Real Difference?
Whole food supplements are exactly what they sound like—nutrients derived directly from real, natural foods. They’re made by concentrating and dehydrating whole fruits, vegetables, herbs, sea vegetables and other plant-based sources to retain their full spectrum of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and phytonutrients. Unlike synthetic supplements that isolate individual nutrients, whole food supplements keep these nutrients in their natural, complex form (usually through freeze-drying).
Your body recognizes and absorbs whole food more efficiently because they are created with all the natural cofactors—like fiber, enzymes, and antioxidants—that help with digestion and nutrient uptake.
Synthetic supplements, on the other hand, are man-made in a processing plant. They’re designed to mimic the chemical structure of natural vitamins and minerals. Instead, they’re derived through chemical reactions using ingredients like petroleum derivatives, coal tar, or other industrial compounds.
Synthetic supplements lack the natural cofactors found in the WHOLE food. While the nutrient may look the same under a microscope, your body has a harder time recognizing and absorbing the nutrients, meaning your body may only absorb a fraction of what’s in the pill. Synthetic vitamins can also cause imbalances because they don’t work in harmony with the other nutrients your body needs.
13 Better Food Based Companies
Naturelo is one of the better whole food supplement companies which combines powerful, natural ingredients to enhance its bioactive benefits. It includes premium plant-based vitamins and minerals such:
• Iodine from hand-harvested kelp (People who eat seaweed seldom have mineral deficiencies. The seaweed Kelp naturally contains iodine, along with over 90 other essential minerals which your body uses properly.)
• Vitamin D3 from wild-harvested lichen, Vitamin E from sunflower
• Calcium and Magnesium from marine algae
• Vitamin K2 as MK-7, and chelated minerals like Zinc and Selenium, for better absorption and bioavailability
Its bioactive ingredients include activated B vitamins like B6 from P-5-P, MTHFR-friendly B12 (from methylcobalamin) and Active L-5-Methylfolate (folate, not typical folic acid).
What a breath of fresh air to find a multi-vitamin from real food sources. This is what the label should look like:
Enlarge to read detail.

And Pure Synergy is another one. It isn’t classified as a multivitamin, but I think it’s even better. It contains all the nutrients (including Kelp) from REAL FOOD in God-given balanced amounts.
This is what I have chosen for my husband and myself. This very powerful blend is organic certified by Oregon Tilth (which in my opinion as organic farmers ourselves, is one of the best certifiers), plastic-free (in glass) dairy-free, gluten-free, tested for heavy metals, microbes, and gluten. It is functional nutrition that is made from fermented whole foods, which make them easier to digest and healing to our stomach.
(With either one of these supplements, I anticipate (certainly not speaking for everyone) I may be able to stop my expensive MTHFR methylated-B complex that I wrote about here. With Pure Synergy Superfood, I may also be able to stop my digestive enzyme, iodine, green powder, mushroom powder, and possibly more.)
Enlarge to read:

By adding Kelp and other complete organic whole foods (nothing synthetic) into your daily diet (delivering synergistic vitamins, minerals, enzymes, co-factors and phytonutrients), you can expect:
• Increased energy, reduced fatigue, balanced metabolism and better brain processing because the body knows what to do with properly grown, God-given food. Man-made junk confuses it.
• Better digestion, enhanced nutrient absorption, improved immune function
• Healthier skin, hair, bones, nails and more
What About the Companies?
Remember this post? Look Who’s Controlling Our Natural Supplements? It reveals that almost ALL the companies that we used to totally trust are now bought up by giant conglomerations like Pfizer, Clorox, P&G, Nestle, Bayer. etc. etc.
At last check, NATURELO® is owned by Arcadia Consumer Healthcare, Inc., NOT one of the Big 14 Mega-Corps listed below.
And, at last check, Pure Synergy is still independently owned.

“Cleaner” Whole Food Supplement Companies
Some other safer, fully-natural companies I now order from (until they get swallowed up by the greedy mega-corps) are:
• Pure Synergy (I am very excited about this company. Check out their prenatal, PureNatal)
• Paleo Valley – unique, clean, whole food supplements
• Standard Process – Dr. Royal Lee recognized nutritional deficiencies caused by processed foods and industrial food production back in 1923. They pioneered innovation in whole food nutrition using organic and regenerative farming practices.
• Professional Formulas – founded in 1984, Professional Formulas delivers high-quality, practitioner-grade supplements designed to address a wide range of health needs. (I wrote, down near the end of these posts, about their products and how to use them for Shingles, Epstein-Barr Virus and Lyme.) We use these regularly alongside TRS.
• Dr. Christopher’s Formula’s – a wonderful array of solid, clean formula’s developed by Dr. John R. Christopher himself many years ago! I love his School of Natural Healing book.
• NutraMedix – U.S. made tinctures with many different product categories.
• Purely Beneficial – no fillers, no artificial ingredients, no harmful preservatives. I love their Resveratrol 1450.
• Microbiome Labs – The best you can buy for adults. Completely clean, cutting-edge spore-based probiotic nutritional supplements effectively recondition the adult gut. Survive body heat and stomach acid. MegaSporeBiotic and MegaMucosa fully healed my gut.
• Solaray – not perfect, and has been bought out, but has far fewer additives, has very good herbs and blends like these) to offer a MUCH higher quality product than, say, popular NOW brand
• Ancient Nutrition – Organic Alkalizing Super Greens, Collagen Peptides, very complete whole foods, including mushrooms and probiotics, often fermented, for different needs, etc.
• Traditional Medicinals – Pharmacopeial grade medicinal herbs formulated by professional herbalists for high-quality, tested, effective teas. (See other tea brands that test free from pesticides here).
• Paradise Herbs – organic & wild-crafted ingredients, probiotics, mushrooms and enzymes
I’m sure there are a few more… Do you know of other ‘clean’ whole food companies I can add here?

Mrs T
Dr Schulze’s products
herbdoc.com
I’ve used quite a few of them for quite a few years.
Also, Linden Botanicals is good as well.
Jacqueline
Thank you for that information! I will check them both out! ~J
Andrea Bennett
Mrs T,
I was going to post a comment about Dr Schulze and saw you already had! We have been impressed by his formulas.
I was introduced to this company by watching Chris Wark of Christ Beat Cancer interview Dr Schulze. He is very careful in how he gathers his herbs and processes them.
Have a lovely day, Andrea
Jacqueline
Andrea, it is good to know that you agree about Dr. Schulze’s products. It’s great to know that there are still excellent companies that haven’t sold out and are committed to excellence!
Appreciate the input on this! ~J
Andrea Bennett
Hello Jacqueline,
According to Wark’s interview of Dr Schulze, he had been a student of Dr Christopher, years ago. I think you will appreciate his tictures.
Take care and much love, Andrea
Amy
We love using Azure Standard to get non-gmo/organic food and bulk items while living in an area where they’re very hard to find locally. They support small businesses and non-gmo. They also offer their own line of supplements (“Azure Wellness”). Not all are whole food supplements, but their multi is: https://www.azurestandard.com/shop/product/nutritional-supplements/vitamins-minerals/multi-vitamins-minerals/for-adults/capsules/whole-food-multi-vitamin-caps/33214
Jacqueline
Amy, thank you so much for adding that! We love Azure, but I wasn’t aware of their supplements. 🙂 ~Jacque
Sara Salgado
I also have been using Pure Synergy for years. Love that company. Please let us know if they get brought out!
Jacqueline
I will, if I learn of it! Thanks Sara! ~J
Sally Parish
Are you familiar with Metagenics? I have consulted with the pharmacist at his compounding pharmacy in Houston.
We talked about using ivermectin as a prophylactic so I take it once a week. I get mine from a pharmaceutical company in India.
Jacqueline
Hi, Sally,
I have used Metagenics, back years ago before they were bought out by Alticor. They were excellent then, and do not know if things have changed since, but likely they have cut costs in ingredient quality..
They used to give tours of their facilities to medical providers who cared enough to learn back in the day. ~J
PS see image in the post of who purchased who… Metagenics is in there…
Heather
Sally can you give me information about where to get Ivermectin in India?
Jacqueline
Heather,
Many people are purchasing from India, but the reliability of it varies month to month lately, I’m hearing. The https://www.lifebeltmedicinedropshipper.com/ link is in this post: https://deeprootsathome.com/find-a-doctor-who-will-prescribe-ivermectin-early-covid-treatment/ Also, some are going through IndiaMart.com and getting quotes from the different suppliers there.
Many have gone to horse paste due to its safety, availability, and low cost. https://deeprootsathome.com/dirt-road-discussions-ivermectin-horse-paste-protocol-by-request/ I have not given links to each product so people can do their own research. I know MANY who use and trust it at the recommended amount and have read many more testimonials on how it is used (often alongside fenben): https://deeprootsathome.com/ivermectin-fenbendazole-for-tumors-ibd-alzheimers-stories/
I hope that helps,
Jacqueline
Bonnie White
Great list!! Thanks so much!
How do you feel about Dr. Mercola’s supplements?
Jacqueline
Hi, Bonnie!
Dr. Mercola has put a lot of thought into his supplements, however he still uses less than whole food for the components and some contain common additives.. For example, compare these 2 Vitamin C products:
Dr. Mercola’s at $30 with lots of additives… https://amzn.to/40cXnzZ and Pure Synergy’s at $25 with a much more synergistic blend of real organic fruits and berries: https://amzn.to/465Y81u
They are not exactly apples to apples, but that should give an idea what I choose to purchase for my family and myself.
Also, to nuance this even more, I am not sure I want to support Dr. Mercola’s business any longer since he decided to channel an “ancient and wise high-vibration entity from the causal plane” called Bahlon for his medical information (which had been wonderful, and for the most part VERY accurate, in the past.) It is all in this post: https://deeprootsathome.com/what-happened-to-dr-mercola-cult-like-corporate-takeover/
Sorry for that long reply.
Blessings,
Jacque
Bea Ann Bridges
Hi Jacqueline! Thank you so much for this excellent post! I totally agree with your previous reply about Dr. Mercola! We used his products and read his info for years, but when you sent out that informative post explaining what was happening with him, I was shocked! I did some further research on it, and of course, you were right! I immediately stopped buying his products and reading his info, as I feel he cannot be trusted any longer. I even wonder if he was a govt. target via this psychic since he had been at the top of the govt./pharma watch list and had threats and attacks on his website/materials in the past. Anyway, it’s very sad!
We buy some of Pure Synergy’s supplements as well, but have not tried their multi vitamin and only bought the organic superfood powder once when it was at a super discount. Do you feel the superfood powder is better than their women’s multivitamin, and if so, could you briefly explain? How do you take the powder – just with by mixing in water or do you mix it into a smoothie?
Thank you for confirming some of the buy outs I was already aware of and for giving us these possibilities for companies who are still trustworthy! I’m so happy to learn of some I’d never known about like NutraMedix, Purely Beneficial and Microbiome Labs. I will check them out!
Oh, and one last thing, I read some positive comments above on Dr. Schulz’s herbals and have heard of his company, but am more familiar with Dr. Morse’s and Dr. Christopher’s herbal formulas, which I’ve used and always liked. Do you know about Dr. Morse’s products, and if so, do you have an opinion of them?
Thanks again so much!
Blessings, Bea Ann Bridges
Whitney
Azure Standard! I buy their whole food multi for my older boys!
Jacqueline
Whitney,
I just looked at Azures Multi and it looks quite good! Appreciate you! ~J
Sheila
I am a 64 year old woman. I have a cabinet full of all the vitamins that are not from reliable companies. As far as I know, I am healthy. Should I just start with the women’s multivitamin say from Pure Synergy? The price tag is high to cover all the things I thought I was covering with my wrong vitamins. I have been trying to figure out a reoccurring hives outbreak every 3-7 days. I did the testing for this and that route but no answers were found. I tried the probiotic Seed for awhile but it made me nauseous. I generally have normal in the low range blood pressure but recently had a strange 7 hours of super high bp and a heartrate that was 140-160. Usually and ever sense, all numbers are nice and low again. But I started trying to figure out getting electrolytes. Those companies are endless. I have been mixing up coconut water with juices and salt while I try to figure out what I should do. Thank you for any extra guidance. Your article was great.
Jacqueline
Sheila, I don’t know all the supplements you have there, but bc of all the additives and synthetic ingredients, it may be worthwhile to purge it all and just get 1 or 2 supplements that cover a lot of bases. Probably, the women’s Multi by Pure Synergy would be the best one to just do that. It would he helpful to your health long term, for sure.
I understand how disheartening it is to find out something like this because of the expense.
I’m praying for you now for wisdom. Hang in there!
Jacqueline
Geri Ridenhour
Neither Naturelo nor Pure Synergy indicates 5000 IU of B3 which is what my doctor recommended. What am I missing in understanding this article? 16 mgNE of B3 – what does that even mean? I feel lost reading some of these labels which usually means I go to the drug store and buy something off the shelf only because I can understand how much of each vitamin I’m getting. I understand what you’re saying about natural ingredients, and completely agree. I just understand how the amounts compare to synthetic ingredients
Jacqueline
Hi, Geri,
I am looking for a scientist or a company like Pure Synergy with a Research and Development person to write about this for DRAH (and answer your question), but have not found someone who can really go deeper on how to scientifically answer your question.
Basically, synthetically-derived vitamins are not as well absorbed (or are fractionated into only a part which has a far lower bioavailability) and the body doesn’t know what to do with them, so those that are naturally derived (while having lower numbers), are really more potent to do what you are wanting out of that 5,000 mg of B3.
This product has B3 as niacinamide at 160% of USRDA at 1/day: https://amzn.to/4o5mBdB
This post only touches on the high doses you are told will help, but be careful with that much synthetic B3. Pls read the text in bold below.
“Niacin, or vitamin B3, participates in over 200 enzymes, and is the most important B vitamin for making energy from the foods we eat. Niacin is also critical for keeping our nervous and digestive systems humming, supports healthy blood composition, and helps maintain the health of our skin.
All protein-containing foods are rich in niacin, including:
Meat & fish
Milk
Eggs
Legumes
Nuts
Mushrooms
A diet lacking in niacin, more typical among malnourished people and those struggling with alcohol abuse, can have negative impacts on the brain, gut, and skin.
***High doses of supplemental niacin in the form of nicotinic acid are commonly prescribed to support healthy lipid levels, but large amounts are associated with skin flushing and other unfavorable symptoms. Supplements providing niacin from niacinamide or nicotinamide riboside are generally better tolerated.***
I trust that a natural one with a lower number is very much better to be utilized properly than a synthetic one with high numbers. Just my understanding and why we choose whole foods supplements.
I know that really doesn’t answer your question, but I’m working on it. (So I am trusting the scientists and esp Pure Synergy or Naturelo to deliver a more complete and bio-active product and kinda disregard the numbers.
Blessings,
jacque
Lynn Custer
Do you know anything about company Trivita ?
Jacqueline
Lyn, I am sorry that I haven’t found the time to investigate the Trivita company. You can do that by going to their website and research their ingredient sources and testing, if they do that.
Blessings,
Jacqueline
Pamela
We have been using Green Vibrance powder for years and are very happy with it. Haven’t been able to find anything that compares. Would love to know what you think about it. We also use mushroom tinctures (forest blend, cordyceps, and lions mane).
Jacqueline
Hi, Pamela,
I like Green Vibrance. One I listed in the post that compares to it is this Paradise product: Paradise, ORAC Energy Greens Powder Extract, Super Antioxidants, Probiotics for Gut Health & Digestion, Vitamin C for Immunity, with Spirulina & Chlorella
https://amzn.to/4pqMMMI
They are very similar, so I’d stay with what you are already happy with! ~Jacque
Pamela
Thank you!
A.S.
I like Perfect Supplements for liver and collagen!
Jacqueline
A.S., I have just heard about Perfect Supplements and will have to check them out. Thanks, ~J
Lynn
Do you know anything about TriVita?
Jacqueline
Lynn, I don’t at this time. will have to check them out. Thanks, ~J
