National disruptions and food shortages have gone from “dangerous conspiracy theories” to mainstream news topics. And costs of goods are driven up.
There’s a massive egg shortage and egg farms keep burning down all over America. Eggs are now over $10 per dozen in many places. Feed companies are quietly altering the feed, and backyard chickens aren’t laying. Train wrecks are taking their toll on communities and the goods that were lost.
FOOD DISRUPTION: The U.S. Department of Agriculture released its monthly truck rate report with a dim outlook. Out of 23 specialty agriculture regions, 18 are experiencing a shortage in haulers. Nearly all domestically grown produce is impacted by these transportation downturns.
Consider that 73% of goods across the country are transported by truck. According to the ATA, the trucking industry was already 61,000 drivers short of demand back in 2019. Then the pandemic hit.
However the shortages are not just about food.
Gasoline, cars, computer chips, lumber, plastics, and paper products are all on the shortages lists. Chlorine for pools, oxygen for hospitals, plus labor workers are all in short supply.
There is currently even a pet food shortage.
Are you ready? Pray and ask the Lord how you can be ready and what to do first.
I urge you to take this opportunity to stock up on non-perishable food and essentials while prices are still relatively stable, because when the panic button is pushed it will be too late.
Start or join a MAG: Mutual Assistance Group. Use Duck Duck Go and research it to coordinate one in your community.
The mistake of stocking up on Standard American Diet (SAD) fare in a Food Shortage:
Conventional feed lot meat, processed food and oils, and conventional GMO grains and canned goods lead to a health nightmare, sickening you with clogged elimination pathways, foggy thinking, and poor immune response directly caused by nutritional deficiencies.
And MREs were intended for no more than 3 weeks and only in the worst survival conditions.
To ‘prep’ by storing these kinds of foods is the ultimate mistake when you want to really be able to function at peak.
Stock and grow HIGH nutritive foods even if they are not the norm for most. Those who do the opposite of the “normal” today will fare much better.
Nutrient dense foods build up our bodies.
Nutrient-depleted conventional, GMO, processed foods with sickening additives will tear down your body down, esp when under extraordinary stress.
Better Food Recommendations:
I recommend as the very basics:
• canned Alaskan pink Salmon (bone in, skin on), tinned bristling sardines in olive oil, chicken (Trader Joe’s)
• varieties of bulk organic dried beans (pinto, black, lentils, garbanzos, split peas, kidneys, etc.) (also organic refried and baked in cans with decent ingredients at Trader Joe’s)
• whole grains (millet, oat groats, quinoa, barley, rye, wild rice, wheat) (you will need a small grain mill)
• organic white rice (brown goes rancid too fast)
• all canned vegetables should be organic (it will be well worth it later)
• and consider Trader Joe’s canned organic coconut cream (instead of powdered antibiotic-laced conventional milk), amazing for its quality fat content and all your milk and baking needs
• raw nuts, nut butters – TJ’s raw almond butter tastes roasted, but isn’t, so it has all its natural Vit E, and doesn’t have the usual molds of PB. I get it unsalted and add back Himalayan salt myself.
• virgin coconut oil for all your fat needs
• Himalayan salt, spices
Shelf life is very long!

What Can You Do in Your Suburban Backyard?
You might be surprised how much you can do in a small space. If you have some seeds saved for a worst-case scenario food shortage situation, that’s a great start… but do you know HOW TO GROW them?
Those aren’t magic beans from the Jack and the Beanstalk story. You have to practice growing your crops to get good at it (like anything). That means you need to be growing now, even small stuff helps build knowledge and lessens stress.
Don’t let the first time you try to grow your own food be when you’re already starving. START NOW
Our favorite varieties of green beans are Emerite and Kentucky Wonder. Both are heirlooms, so not GMO. You can save these seeds by drying them out and replant next year vs. buying seeds over and over from these huge seed companies at outrageous prices. If you understood the markup on seeds… you’d see why companies don’t want you saving your own.

We have a big garden every year-beans, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, and peppers for starters. We have a well so we can water without breaking our water/sewer bill. What doesn’t get eaten fresh is fresh frozen, canned, pickled, and dried (we do herbs also). I think our family is healthier for the effort we put into the garden.
Jacqueline
Yes, I am sure of it, Sue!
Anyone who regularly gardens has to be healthier unless they use chemicals, and then I’m pretty certain that then they are undoing all the good!
You are one of the few that is properly prepared! <3
Blessings,
Jacque

We also grow hops to make our own beer. We have many varieties but don’t all produce at the same time. We would have no room for anything else in the freezers if they were producing. We make our own wine too (through kits). We make a merlot to die for. Got to have some fun!
Lydia
Thank you so much for this! Have you considered adding ghee to the list? It is very shelf stable and nutrient dense. It can even be made and preserved at home for considerable cost-savings compared to store bought.
Jacqueline
I love the idea of ghee, esp. from grass-fed butter, Lydia, but I keep seeing the “best by” date on ghee I see in stores, and it is quite a bit shorter than I thought it would be.
I’m wondering how much we shpuld trust them anyway… I have talked with people who know about how long things last and they say longer than the best by date.
Thank you for sharing here! Jacque

Thanks for sharing! You remind me to pick up doubles of a few things on sale every time I go to the grocery store! 😊

Praying for you, your family, and the coming little one you carry! I value your friendship so much.

So thankful for you, your example, and your shepherding care! So thankful we will only look with our eyes and see His recompense! 🙂
Love and blessings!!!

Aw Meg, if it wasn’t such a serious situation, it would be a pleasure to serve in this way.
Please pray for me to have wisdom in what I do share.
Sending peace, Jacque

Hello! I greatly appreciate all the information you share! I have an off topic question that I was wondering if you have any information on. We live in WA state, the governor has recently made a vaccine mandate that includes my husband in the requirement. We we’re wondering how to go about getting a religious exemption? The use of aborted cells in vaccines is reprehensible. We haven’t vaccinated ourselves or our son since learning of this. However, this is the first time we are dealing with a legal mandate for work. We don’t know where to start or how to receive a religious exemption. Do you have any insight on where to begin with this?
Thank you.
Jacqueline
Tasha, I have to say I don’t have any solid steps to recommend. I wish I did.
I do have a protocol I can offer you if your husband decides to take it (that will help), but my biggest hope is that he will just say no and trust the Lord will provide!
I am praying now,
Jacque
Michelle
I appreciate your advice, though noticed one error: Conventional milk does not have antibiotics. Each batch is tested and farmers lose their milk check for that batch if it tests positive. That said, I am no longer a conventional dairy farmer – we keep two cows so have the freshest, healthiest dairy products now. 🙂
Jacqueline
Hi, Michelle,
Actually, I have been allergic to antibiotics for over 40 years. I know the conventional milk we purchased had allowable “trace” antibiotics in it because I would react the same way after drinking it. I tested that out over several years, and it was always the same for me.
All I can do is go by my experience. W never drink conventional milk now and will only drink organic grass-fed/grass-finished (no corn or grain feed) whole milk.
We had access to pastured grass-fed whole raw milk for quite a while and never reacted that way!
I am so thankful you have kept 2 – I’m kind jealous ;D xoxo
